A Teacher’s Day Arrive on time to school (designated time changes between high school, middle school, and elementary schools) Have lesson plans ready each day Start class at the bell to begin the period Take accurate attendance for each class Grades should be up-to-date at the beginning of each week (understanding that themes and projects take a little longer to grade) Utilize prep time to grade, plan, collaborate, return parental phone calls (within 24 hours), and contact parents with whom you need to speak Do not leave until your contract day is complete (these vary between buildings as well)

Technology Never allow a student to use your teacher computer Do not provide students with the wireless network password for any reason Never provide your password to a student so that they can access a website that is blocked for them Never be afraid to make a mistake Report damage to a computer when you see it Do engage your students through technology Do have students create projects using technology which address your standards Do share videos, web sites, and games which engage your students and address your standards Do ask for help when you need it Check availability of a website before you use it in class

First Amendment Rights and new teachers Be mindful of what you post and who will see it - you are a role model Keep your personal accounts and classroom accounts separate Accepting followers or friends who are students and parents to a personal account can be dangerous Your class pages are a reflection of you - be mindful of organization, spelling, grammar, and copyright Do not post criticisms of teachers, administrators or policies online Social Media

Never speak negatively about another teacher or administrator to a parent or student Never speak about a student to another parent or student Do not air your grievances using social media Do not share confidential information about students or families Don’t engage in gossip Do support teachers and administrators with whom you work Do speak directly to a student and his/her parents about concerns you have about the student (or compliments) Do approach your administrator or fellow teacher if you have a concern Do share information when you are concerned for a student’s well-being Do find out the facts if you hear something of concern Professionalism
