Data Team Implementation and Sustainability

Planning for Data Team Implementation Align Data Teams with the mission, values, and purpose of the school Implement distributed leadership Empower educators Use high-leverage strategies Organize for success ( The Leadership and Learn Center, 2010, p. 140)

Implementation and Sustainability Strategies Use Data Teams as a strategy within the school improvement plan Monitor student achievement via Data Teams monthly Celebrate short-term wins (The Leadership and Learn Center, 2010, p. 140)

Forming Data Teams What will Data Teams look like in your School? How will they be formed? How will you identify your Data Team leaders?

Reflective Learning Experience 1.Describe the structure of your Data Team. 2.Write your school’s/district’s mission, vision, and purpose of the school. 3.Identify a process you can use to ensure the alignment of your school’s/district’s mission, vision, and purpose of the school with the Data Team structure. 4.Make a list of all potential data to use to address an issue your Data Team is currently addressing. 5.Pulling Weeds. Eliminate data not aligned with the issue. 6.Identify data you can use for a data wall addressing an issue your data team is currently addressing. 7.Discuss how your school improvement process can include Data Teams.

Why a Data Wall? How does posting data on the wall affect dialogue among educators? What is the potential impact a data wall can have on instructional practices ? What impact can data walls and data analysis have on professional development and student achievement?

Data Walls-Displaying Results Data Teams are encouraged to display achievement results. Serves as a celebration and a professional dialogue Team Results not Results of Individual Teachers displayed Reflect the area of focus pre and post assessment results Identify the powerful practices that led to the results

Display data is a mechanism for sharing results and effective practices. Update regularly after the Data Team meetings. Monitor techniques to make sure consistent updates Plan to bring new staff up to speed (lack of better words) Sustaining Data Walls

A Data Wall Consists of Three Parts 1.Student data (anonymous) 2. Instructional strategies or other school measures involving teaching practices (i.e. collaborative scoring, frequency of performance assessments, etc.) 3. Inferences and conclusions drawn from the data

Planning YOUR Data Wall What is the major purpose? How will you prepare your staff? What information will you use? Who will help prepare the Data Wall? Where will the Data Wall be displayed? What other Data Walls would be beneficial? How will you use the Data Wall to guide instruction?

Create your Data Wall Use the Tri-Board to create your own kick off data wall. Review your District or Charter School Data and decide what you would like to focus on for your initial wall.
