Spotlight on Religion Judaism

The Hebrews were the first to become monotheists under Abraham. The idea of monotheism help develop the following religions: »Judaism »Christianity »Islam

Spotlight on Religion Judaism Origins of Judaism: Founder is Abraham: God told him to take the Hebrews to Canaan. They become nomads and eventually settle in Egypt where the Hebrews are enslaved. Moses leads the Hebrew slaves in an Exodus from Egypt.

Spotlight on Religion Judaism Beliefs: Torah This is the written record and beliefs of the Jews. Ten Commandments Given to Moses from God. They state the moral and religious conduct of the Jews.

Spotlight on Religion Judaism Spread of Judaism 2000 b.c.- God told Abraham to go to the holy land of Jerusalem b.c.-70a.d.- While the Jews were there, they were repeatedly conquered and sent into exile. 70 a.d.-132 a.d.- Eventually, Diaspora (dispersal) happens; they lose the holy land and spread around the world. 132 a.d a.d.- This causes the Jews to settle in many different locations a.d.-Present- Israel is created as an official Jewish state.
