STUDENT LED PRESENTATIONS SLP’s

WHAT ARE STUDENT LED PRESENTATIONS?  Oral presentation  Places you in the centre or the process  Provide you with the opportunity to share what you are learning at school with your parents.  Opportunity for you to present what you have achieved to your parents  It allows you to focus on your own learning  Encourages you to take responsibility for your own success and achievements  Allows you the opportunity to show your parents and your mentor teacher areas of your own learning and schooling that you are proud of

FRONT PAGE This could show something about you, your move to Gisborne Secondary College, your neighbourhood or your mentor group. It can be a drawing, scrap book page, cartoon, or whatever you like. BE CREATIVE!

SEMESTER ONE LEARNING GOALS Refer to your learning goal sheets  I made these goals because...  I did/did not achieve these goals because...  Something I learnt while trying to achieve my goals was...  I changed my goals throughout the semester because...

OR INSTEAD OF GOALS YOU MIGHT PREFER  What are my hopes for my first year in the Learning Neighbourhood?  What are my fears?  What is similar between primary and secondary school?  What isn’t similar?  Could be done as a Venn diagram.

FOR EACH OF YOUR SUBJECTS you will be required to show us 5 things... 1)How you have shown improvement in your learning 2)How your organisation has improved 3)An understanding of how your learn best 4)What new things you have discovered 5)Something you are really proud of.

HOW HAVE I SHOWN IMPROVEMENT IN MY LEARNING THIS YEAR? Suggestions  Choose any area in which you have improved for each subject  This might mean that you stick in your assessment results, and any repeat or later assessments to show how much you improved.  Or maybe a draft of a project and the final copy. Your draft would show evidence of your proof reading and use of a spell check.

HOW HAVE I SHOWN IMPROVED ORGANISATION? Suggestions  This might mean that you show how you are now using your calendar or your homework folder to record work due and the date that it is due.  You might photograph your locker and then clean it out. Come back a few weeks later and photograph it again to see if it has improved/stayed clean.  Use tabs in your SLP and show how they are used to highlight various areas of your work that you want to show.

MY LEARNING  How do I learn?  What helps my learning?  What hinders my learning?  How do I know when I am improving my learning? Examples These can be examples which are in your subject books. You don’t need to rewrite them you could flag them with a post it note.

DIFFERENT WAYS WE LEARN: TEAM WORK  Reflect on your contribution to team work this year  What evidence do you have?  When making up a team what are some of the different ways that you have used to form the groups?  What are the advantages of working with your friends?

DIFFERENT WAYS WE LEARN: THINKING TOOLS What thinking tools have I used so far this year? What did I use them for? How useful did I find them? Again examples could be flagged in your books.

DIFFERENT WAYS WE LEARN: RESEARCH  Explain how you would go about researching a topic on the internet.  How do you take notes from the web sites you find?  How do you decide if the web sites are accurate and reliable?  How do you take notes from books?  What other sources have you used to collect information?  Show examples where you have accurately referenced a web page.

DIFFERENT WAYS WE LEARN: REFLECTION  What types of feedback have you received this year?  How have you used feedback from your peers or teachers to improve your work.  Show examples.

WHAT NEW THINGS HAVE I DISCOVERED? Suggestions  About yourself  About your work  About a particular topic that interested you  How I learnt best  How might this help you next semester?

HOW HAVE I CONTRIBUTED TO THE NH AND GSC AS A WHOLE? Have you involved yourself in the NH community or GSC  Student union  Athletics  Swimming  Rock Eisteddfod

FURTHER COMMENTS...  What are you looking forward to about next semester?  Why?  Do you have any concerns about next semester?  Why?  Can you think of any strategies you may have acquired or can develop to deal with these concerns?  What are they?

BRAG A LITTLE!!! What am I really proud of?  Why are your proud of this?  Show us!
