Universitätsbibliothek Stuttgart: OA-Policies Projekt Spiecker Overview:  SHERPA/RoMEO: Beginnings  Open Access Policies Project – SHERPA/RoMEO deutsch  Phase I German Interface  Phase II oaPAPI  Phase III Integration of EZB  Where SHERPA/RoMEO (deutsch) data is used  Remarks about SHERPA/RoMEO deutsch  Contact + Information

Universitätsbibliothek Stuttgart: OA-Policies Projekt Spiecker SHERPA/RoMEO: SHERPA/RoMEO: Beginnings  Origin: RoMEO JISCRoMEO JISC  The original RoMEO Project (Rights MEtadata for Open archiving) at the University of Loughborough was funded by the JISC (Joint Information Systems Committee) for one year (2002/3)RoMEOJISC OAI-PMH OAI-PMH  to investigate the rights issues surrounding the ‘self-archiving’ of research in the UK academic community under the OAI-PMH (Open Archive Initiative‘s Protocol for Metadata Harvesting)OAI-PMH  Further Development:  development from the original journal publishers' listings to an interactivly searchable database of publishers‘ Open Access archiving policies SHERPA JISCWellcome Trust SHERPA JISCWellcome Trust  the service is maintained by SHERPA (Securing a Hybrid Environment for Research Preservation and Access) with support from JISC and the Wellcome TrustSHERPAJISCWellcome Trust  SHERPA/RoMEO  SHERPA/RoMEO based at the University of Nottingham since 2005/06 SHERPA/RoMEO

Universitätsbibliothek Stuttgart: OA-Policies Projekt Spiecker SHERPA/RoMEO deutsch: SHERPA/RoMEO deutsch: Beginnings  Situation in Germany (2006):  A collection of publishers‘ Open Access archiving policies considered very useful for German authors and publishers  Information in German and about German publishers desirable  Concept: instead of building a German database for collecting data decision to use and to contribute to the SHERPA/RoMEO database  Open Access Policies Project (Objectives):  Integrate information on German publishers into the RoMEO service  Provide a German language interface for the RoMEO service DINI DINI  Bring together experiences and information of German libraries in co-operation with DINIDINI  Advocate the necessity of OA policies (especially to small and medium size publishers in Germany)  Provide an infrastructure for the direct inclusion of the RoMEO service in institutional repositories and other services

Universitätsbibliothek Stuttgart: OA-Policies Projekt Spiecker Open Access Policies – Partners Conception, design and implementation are done by Stuttgart University Library and the Computer- and Mediaservice of the Humboldt-University Berlin Sponsored by Co-operating with Phase I: 05/2006 – 12/2006 Phase II: 05/2007 – 10/2007 Phase III: 08/2008 – 10/ and the EZB of the Regensburg University

Universitätsbibliothek Stuttgart: OA-Policies Projekt Spiecker OA PoliciesProject – Results OA Policies Project – Results  Phase I:  German language Interface based on the English RoMEO API  Phase II:  Extensible Interface: oaPAPI = open access Policies Application Programming Interface oaPAPI  Phase III:  Integration of the Elektronische Zeitschriftenbibliothek (EZB) data on publishers and journals and further development of oaPAPI-Client EZB

Universitätsbibliothek Stuttgart: OA-Policies Projekt Spiecker Phase III: Integration of EZB data Goal: EZB EZB  To get additional information from the database of the EZB (Elektronischen Zeitschriftenbibliothek) Regensburg and display it on the SHERPA/RoMEO deutsch websiteEZB EZB  To provide and integrate data from SHERPA/RoMEO on the EZB WebsiteEZB

Universitätsbibliothek Stuttgart: OA-Policies Projekt Spiecker Phase III: Integration of EZB data (Schema) open source code:

Universitätsbibliothek Stuttgart: OA-Policies Projekt Spiecker SHERPA/RoMEO deutsch: DINI website /

Universitätsbibliothek Stuttgart: OA-Policies Projekt Spiecker SHERPA/RoMEO deutsch: Verlage A-Z SHERPA/RoMEO deutsch: all publishers (= Verlage) are listed in alphabetical order with their journals (= Zeitschriften) as known from SHERPA/RoMEO or from EZB database

Universitätsbibliothek Stuttgart: OA-Policies Projekt Spiecker SHERPA/RoMEO deutsch: OA Informationsplattform website SHERPA/RoMEO deutsch: since november 2009 SHERPA/RoMEO deutsch can be accessed from the open access informationsplattform, too

Universitätsbibliothek Stuttgart: OA-Policies Projekt Spiecker EZB: access to SHERPA/RoMEO (deutsch) data

Universitätsbibliothek Stuttgart: OA-Policies Projekt Spiecker EZB: SHERPA/RoMEO data Elektronische Zeitschriftenbibliothe(EZB) the EZB provides information about the access to journals e.g. at a universtity library (red, yellow or green light) and further information about the journals at their publishers, next to that information a service button was integrated to supply open access information from the SHERPA/RoMEO database (see on left side)

Universitätsbibliothek Stuttgart: OA-Policies Projekt Spiecker SHERPA/RoMEO deutsch: some remarks Cooperation with Nottingham works very well SHERPA/RoMEO deutsch provides nearly the same information as SHERPRA/RoMEO (main differences: no information about founders, additional data from the EZB) Two APIs are used in Germany: – The English API is still used for Dini and OA Plattform websites (replacement of English to German phrases is done in Berlin – test ”german” API is used on the EZB website (German phrases directly provided from Nottingham) – Translation of phrases is done in Stuttgart (send to Berlin and Nottingham) Their is no funding for further development in Germany right know The Service of SHERPA/RoMEO deutsch is maintained by the University Library of Stuttgart and the Computer and Mediaservice of the Humboldt University at Berlin
