Breakdown of the AS Course Paper 1: Love Through the Ages: Shakespeare and Poetry Othello by William Shakespeare and the AQA Anthology of Love Poetry through the Ages (Pre-1900) Closed Book Exam: 1 hour 30 minutes 50 % of AS Course  Section A: Shakespeare (Othello). One passage-based question (25 marks)  Section B: Poetry (15 poems). One question on printed poem (25 marks) Paper 2: Love Through the Ages: Prose Study of two prose texts : A Room with a View by E.M Forster and Atonement by Ian McEwan and practice unseen extracts Open Book Exam: 1 hour 30 minutes 50 % Section A: Unseen Prose. One compulsory question on unseen prose extract (25 marks) Section B: Comparing Prose Texts. One comparative question on two prose texts you’ve previously studied (25 marks)

Breakdown of the A2 course Paper 1: Love through the Ages Study of three texts: one poetry (AQA Anthology of Love Poetry through the Ages Pre-1900) and one prose: A Room with a View by E.M Forster. Examination will include two unseen poems Exam (Closed in section A & B, Open in section C): 3 hours 40%  Section A: Shakespeare’s Othello: One passage-based question with linked essay (25 marks)  Section B: Unseen Poetry: Compulsory essay question on two unseen poems (25 marks)  Section C: Comparing Texts – Prose and poetry: One essay question linking two texts (25 marks) Paper 2: Texts in Shared Context Study of three texts: one prose A Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood, one poetry (Feminine Gospels by Carol Ann Duffy) and one drama A Streetcar Named Desire by Tennessee Williams) Examination will include an unseen extract Open Book Exam: 2 hours 30 minutes 40%  Section A: Set Texts.
