1 Welcome to A Level English Language and Literature Combined
By the end of this course you will: Appreciate the contribution of English language and literature to history, society and culture. Develop analytical and evaluative skills, together with the ability to look at texts from both a literary and linguistic viewpoint. Use an enquiring, critical and thoughtful approach to the study of English literature and language.

2 GCE English Language and Literature
The themes you will study... In Year 12 Theme 1: Anthology study for the examination (the representation of place). Paris Anthology Theme 2: Prose and Poetry study for the examination. Carol Ann Duffy or Seamus Heaney Anthology Dracula or A Handmaid’s Tale In Year 13 Theme 3: Exploring conflict (re-creative writing and analysis of set drama text). The Kite Runner/The Great Gatsby All My Sons/A Street Car Named Desire Theme 4: Personal investigation on a chosen theme and texts (non-exam assessment). Essay writing skills Skills of literary and linguistic analysis to apply to a range of texts The ability to cross-reference and compare texts Expectations and workload 3 internal formal assessments completed per academic year 2 to 3 homework assignments completed per week (essays, original writing, research or analysis of texts) Independent reading and research to support classroom learning and exam success An intrinsic interest in a range of literature and language texts.
