14 Nov 2007 Most important results and actual “shape” of the project deliverables supporting the SESAR D3 results (referring to the ConOps, the Architecture, CNS technologies, etc.) Key areas of ART: Development of visual and technical aids and validation of their operational usage in a remote tower environment:  Remotely perform Tower Operations by Advanced visual tools  Digital overlay of the video picture  Video tracking functions  Visual enhancement functionality (”to view through fog and darkness”)  Change panorama view from one airport to another

14 Nov 2007 Most important results and actual “shape” of the project deliverables supporting the SESAR D3 results (referring to the ConOps, the Architecture, CNS technologies, etc.) Key Performance Area ART is well represented in almost all of the different Key Performance Areas. But most contributing in:  Cost-Effectiveness - Remote TWR operations centralized for several airports by less personnel. Enables more service hours at a larger number of airports.  Capacity - Optimized airport throughput and capacity in all weather conditions with the use of visual enhancement  Safety - Enhanced situational awareness in adverse weather conditions, incl reduction of head-down time. Improved access to perform recurrent training in the same operational environment by 3d recording.

14 Nov 2007 Explain how the Project is supporting the SESAR D3 Target Concept (referring to D3 ConOps, Architecture, CNS Technologies) ART contributions to the SESAR ATM Target Concept of Operations: Business Trajectory – ART will develop new visualisation features for aerodrome control for enhanced survelliance of airport operations in low visibility and darkness (LVP/LVO). Ability to fulfill the pre-planned trajectory at all times, without reduced capacity e.g. during bad airport visual conditions.

14 Nov 2007 Explain how the Project is supporting the SESAR D3 Target Concept (referring to D3 ConOps, Architecture, CNS Technologies) Integrated Airport operations contributing to capacity gains and reducing environmental impact - ART will contribute to less airport delays during bad visual conditions, and to better regularity at regional airports, which will relieve congested airports. Emissions and noise will consequently be reduced accordingly.

14 Nov 2007 Explain how the Project is supporting the SESAR D3 Target Concept (referring to D3 ConOps, Architecture, CNS Technologies) New separation modes to allow for increased capacity - ART will ensure a higher through-put during LVP/LVO conditions. ”Normal” separation can be used, without a need to apply very restricted LVP.

14 Nov 2007 Explain how the Project is supporting the SESAR D3 Target Concept (referring to D3 ConOps, Architecture, CNS Technologies) Humans will be central in the future European ATM system as managers and decision makers - Reduction of head-down time, by addition of more info in 3D picture. Increased ability to perform recurrent training to keep “up- to date”. Through visual and technical aids, such as recording of audio and 3D video, it is possible to reproduce the course of events of the controllers’ situation. This can be used for training purposes or for analysing incidents.

14 Nov 2007 Explain how the Project is supporting the SESAR D3 Target Concept (referring to D3 ConOps, Architecture, CNS Technologies) CNS Technologies - Improvement of safety at airports by advanced surveillance (in all weather and light conditions) and better information to air traffic controllers to ensure a safe separation and an efficient traffic flow. This will also improve the probability of detecting erroneous behaviour of taxiing aircrafts and prevent runway incursions.

14 Nov 2007 Most important results and actual “shape” of the project deliverables supporting the SESAR D3 results (referring to the ConOps, the Architecture, CNS technologies, etc.) A large number of operational ATCOs will participate in validation activities, to examine op benefits and impact on situational awareness. Analyses and results will be reflected as conclusions and recommendations in the final report, and an Invitation to a full-scale demonstration of the ART concept integrated in real live operation in a demo shadow mode. If Safety regulators permission can be obtained, eventually also in live control mode.

14 Nov 2007 First orientations for better alignment with SESAR D3 (e.g. regarding necessary focus setting / modification, timeline adjustments, coordination with other projects, etc.)  Coordination with RAPTOR – Remote AirPort Tower Operation Research (RTO).  Consider results from the AD4-project  Analyse possible contribution to the SWIM-architecture  Recommendations from SESAR 3.1 will be considered and SESAR D3 & D4 will be analysed further

14 Nov 2007 First orientations for better alignment with SESAR D3 (e.g. regarding necessary focus setting / modification, timeline adjustments, coordination with other projects, etc.) Thank you for your attention !
