A’Level Fine Art Summer Project

WELCOME Hello and welcome to the art department, some of you I know are already old friends but some of you will be new and maybe a little unsure what you have signed yourself up to. You are in safe hands and will be guided through the coming years to fulfil your potential in this subject. To warm you up and get you ready for the start of term I have create a small short project for you to do over the summer, please don’t panic about what I have asked you to do if you are unsure, please come and find me and I will explain everything. It is intended to be a fun short creative project. Mrs Coyle Subject Leader

Sketchbook work You will need to purchase an A4 sketchbook to undertake this work. These can be bought from the art dept at a cost of 80p Use these website’s to inspire you over the next few weeks. level-art-sketchbookhttp:// level-art-sketchbook

Research Select one the of the following Artists and create 4 or more pages of research into their craft, use these web page to inspire you on presenting your findings. Henri Matisse (you could go and see the exhibition of his work currently on at the Tate Modern) John Millais Lucien Freud Georgia O’Keeffe Gustav Klimt Frieda Kahlo John Waterhouse Claude Monet Grayson Perry Yinka Shonibare Damien Hirst Jenny Saville Tracey Emin Or pick a favourite artist of your own………

Analyse Select your favourite painting by your chosen artist then print it out to fill a page in your sketchbook and write about the impact this has on you. Why did you select it? What do you know about it? What makes it so special?

Observational drawing What is your artist interested in find a theme that they have explored within their work, it could be portraits, landscapes, still life….. What aspect of that do they concentrate on? E.g. Monet produced landscapes painted a different times of day, lots of sun sets and sunrises, he was looking for the effect that light had on the landscape. Georgia O’Keeffe painted detailed close up’s of flowers. Now find lots of examples of the types of things they would paint and draw and paint these in your sketchbooks to fill several pages.

Analyse Select your favourite study from the ones you have drawn/painted re-sketch it to fill a page in your sketchbook, try to work in the style of your artist. How does it connect to the work of your chosen artist? Why did you select it? Explain how you made it. What makes it so special?
