Tempus Project COMPETENCE – Matching competences in higher education and economy: From competence catalogue to strategy and curriculum development

COMPETENCE addresses the link between higher education and economy MAIN OBJECTIVES:  Development of tools for improving the match between competences developed by institutions of higher education and those required by the labour market  Foundation of four Competence and Observation Centres (CAC) in targeted countries  Getting closer to the European Qualification Framework (EQF)

Specific Objectives of the Project 1.To develop or advance methodologies and tools for assessing the match between skills and competences developed by institutions of higher education and those required by the labour market in four partner WB countries and develop recommendations for curricula adaptation. 2.To found four Competence and Observatory Centres (COC), these will serve as a national knowledge transfer and training centre for relevant stakeholders and as a service centre. 3.To conduct knowledge, skills and competences analyses based on 8 pilot study projects.

Main Outputs 1.Developed and advanced an applied methodology for assessing and matching the competences developed at universities and those required by the labour market. 2.Founded four Competence and Observation Centres 3.Conducted 8 pilot studies of qualifications acquired at universities and those needed by the labour market by applying the methodology developed in the first project phase. 4.Competence catalogue developed 5.Dissemination to academic, business and political stakeholders 6.Sustainability of the project outcomes ensured 7.Quality control and monitoring procedures conducted 8.Project management conducted

Main Features of the Project The project COMPETENCE directly addresses the following Tempus goals: 1.It supports the integration of the selected four countries into the European Qualifications Framework (EQF) – as a part of HE and society goal 2.It contributes to the introduction and development of national Quality Assurance Systems in Higher Education.
