Essay Writing How to write a good 5-paragraph essay with pizazz

5-paragraphs Introduction Body Paragraph 1 Body Paragraph 2 Body Paragraph 3 Conclusion

Paragraph 1 = Introduction Start with a hook to get the reader's attention. The hook can be a controversial statement (Sex sells!), a question, Why does sex sell?), or a quotation, " Dr. Sharon Lamb says that girls today are being marketed as sex objects." Continue with a few words to put the essay into context (what is happening, who is involved, where is this phenomenon occurring). Finish the introduction with your thesis (purpose) statement. For example: Hypersexualization of teenagers by the mass media has become a serious problem in their normal psychological development.

Body Paragraphs – 3 Main Points Paragraph 2 = Point 1 - Prove your thesis statement with a concrete example that you explain in depth. For example: Companies like American Apparel have been using scantily clad employees in provocative poses in their advertising. This exploitation of sexy looking youth is displayed on city streets in Montréal and all over North America. Young people are constantly bombarded with unsolicited images of inappropriately dressed, sexualized girls who have been objectified. This form of advertising acts as a type of propaganda that may, over long periods of exposure, lead youth to believe that this is actually normal. It is not. Paragraphs 3 & 4 = Points 2 & 3 – Use 2 other examples from the documentary to prove your thesis statement. Explain them in depth.

Paragraph 5 = Conclusion Start by restating your thesis statement in different words. Hypersexualization of teenagers by the mass media has affected their normal psychological development. Review your 3 main points detailed in the 3 body paragraphs. End with your final word, your opinion, your definitive solution to this social problem. Use terms like, In my opinion, I think, I believe to end the essay.
