Introduction to Tulip Day 2013 Tulip Day Week is March 4 th to 8 th 2013

About the Lung Association The Lung Association is a registered charity with over a 100-year history of helping raise awareness of Canada's #1 chronic illness – lung disease. We fund respiratory research, promote better management of asthma, help those with chronic lung disease, promote a tobacco- free society and address the effects of air quality on lung health.

What is Tulip Day? Tulip Day was first held in communities around Ontario in Sales for the first year were around 20,000 bunches, the next year showed a 70% increase! The tulip, our signature flower, is low fragrance and non-allergenic, which means it can be enjoyed by everyone, including people with breathing difficulties. By purchasing tulips you are supporting lung health research and programs for people who want to learn more about managing and living with lung disease. You can buy a bunch of five cut tulips for $7.00, and a pot of six tulips for $9.00. This year, official Tulip Day week starts on Monday March 4th around Ontario, with the exception of the Huron-Perth Community which kicks off its campaign on February 20 th.

Your participation means better lung health for all Proceeds from Tulip Day fund the Ontario Lung Association’s to provide research programs as well as providing for people with lung diseases. Your participation helps to raise awareness about lung health among your network of colleagues and contacts

Doing good is good for you! A beautiful way to welcome the spring and kick the winter blues to the curb! A great way for businesses of all sizes to support a worthy cause and increase employee engagement. Demonstrate compassion as an organization that cares about employees and their families! A great way to encourage certain behaviors and ethics within the organization as philanthropy projects bring out the best in people. Encourages the emergence of new leadership in smaller groups of employees in a setting that allows them to express their passions and make a difference.

How to Participate Obtain buy-in from senior management. Let your local OLA office know they can count on you to submit an order. Download and review the Workplace Champion Guide and marketing materials. Circulate and post the tulip order forms, sign up sheets and posters in common areas. Consolidate sign up sheets and order forms and order the tulips online by February 15 th, Collect payment and submit online via credit card or when you receive your tulips.

Points to remember Recruit the connectors in your organization and those who have participated before; their wide network and knowledge will help spread the word quickly and efficiently. Start preparing and communicating as early as possible. Remember to use your marketing material in communal areas for all to see, and encourage managers to mention the campaign in department meetings. Make sure you to collect funds before delivery date. Want to hold an event to promote or celebrate Tulip Day? Don’t be shy to contact us, we might have ideas for you!
