FMP: PRODUCTION Audio

BLEEP SFX CREATION  I started off firstly by making my own bleep sound effect I needed for my audio piece. The reason why I made my own and not download a sound effect online is because I wanted to show my audio creation skills within the final major project.  To make the bleep sound effect which will be used to censor any words that are either rude or offensive, I used audacity. Once a new project was opened, I first clicked generate followed by tone. Once the information box popped up I changed the frequency too 1000 then clicked “Ok.” With this 30 second sample I can cut and use it for whenever I feel appropriate.  There is a sample of the sound effect that I made on this slide.

MY RECORDING FOOTAGE AND PREPARING EDIT  To record my audio interview piece, I used a program called Mumble. Mumble is usually used for multiple people at once and is a push to talk program used mainly for gaming, however I used its recording feature then after the interview, imported the recording to Audacity which then exported it into a WAV file which made it editable.  Once it was exported, I imported it onto Adobe Audition so it could be edited. I also added the bleep sound effect on a different multi-mix timeline so I can use it whenever I need it easily and quickly.

EDITING  The steps I took to edit this audio piece was to firstly get rid of the unnecessary parts of the recording. Examples of these parts are things such as silences and long pauses as well as someone saying “um” for a long period of time. This is to make the audio have more a flow with continuous speech and fewer pauses.  After this step, I listened to the audio and picked out what pieces I want where just in case I could possibly improve the flow of questions and answers I was getting. I also removed any questions or answers that were either off topic or just unnecessary due to wanting to keep this audio piece between 5 and 8 minutes long.  I made it for the main audio recording to be on the first track, the censoring sound effects to be put on the second and fourth track and finally the background music on the third track.

FINAL EDIT  In my final edit, I made my audio piece sound as planned. I had the main audio of the interview clear and loud with no unnecessary parts or pauses in, correct use of the censorship sound effect when appropriate and background music which also included as an intro and outro for the interview.  I also edited the parts of the audio with slight background sounds and made them as minimal as possible using Adobe’s sound effects tabs such as the deHummer effect.

MUSIC  I experimented with several bits of music on the link below which had over 10 tracks to choose from, however I decided on David Bulla’s Highlife track because it was a upbeat song piece with a good intro and outro and was consistent throughout the recording.  The music I used for my background music or “sound bed” was David Bulla’s Highlife track which I found on this video at 14:16 - PesMaster91.
