Agenda Hockey – the game for everyone! 1.Reminders 2.Country hockey numbers & story 3.Regional visits 4.Sunraysia HA 5.Hockey SA grants 6.Discussion points

Reminders Hockey – the game for everyone! ORS Starclub Program Good Sports Accreditation Destination Hockey Umpire Development Coach Development Affiliation Agreements Awards Night and Nominations 3 June PLFriday 25 years of Hockey SA

Country Hockey Hockey – the game for everyone! City (Adelaide Metro) Country 77% of state population23% 41% of Hockey SA members* 59% 33% of affiliated junior players* 67% 41% of 2015 state U13 teams 59% 45% of 2016 state U15 teams 55% 66% of 2016 state U18 teams 33% Hockey SA has around 7500 members. The profile across city and country is: *2014 data. These percentages do not allow for inclusion of Sunraysia HA as an SA-affiliate or potentially South Coast HA. Each are around 500 members. Affiliation of these associations will push the percentage of juniors/members in the country in to the seventies.

Country Hockey Hockey – the game for everyone! “We saw as a 13 year old last year and he was a real gun playing div 1 in his region. Unfortunately his development has plateaued over the past 12 months.” “It is not unusual for a metro player to get selected to their first state team at U18s but doesn’t often happen for a regional player.” Declining percentage of regional kids in state teams as the age increases. How do we upskill coaches to ensure the development continues?

Reflections & LL – Country trips Hockey – the game for everyone! Every region is different! Common themes but different issues. Good to piggyback other meetings – e.g. Kadina Council CEO meeting. Consistent themes with: – Facilities – Governance – Coach development – Umpire development Will repeat over summer 2016/17. Board visit to Port Lincoln HA anniversary.

Sunraysia HA Hockey – the game for everyone! HSA Board has approved Sunraysia HA affiliating to Hockey SA. HSA working collaboratively with Hockey Victoria and Sunraysia HA on this. Working to “best for hockey” model and 2017 hybrid model. Details and timelines still in progress but: – HV assisting schools outreach – Sunraysia able to attend SA state champs – Sunraysia able to trial for SA state teams – Closer alignment of Regional DAP with Riverland Talking with South Coast HA about re-affiliation.

Hockey SA Club devt grant Hockey – the game for everyone! Template policies that can be used across clubs to address issues included in Good Sports and STARCLUB. Agreements with satellite stadia and affiliation agreements that spell out the requirements of our clubs and associations. Review & update website content with links to key documents and other resources, including role model case studies from a club/association. Roadshow rollout to clubs and associations. Benchmark where we are across the state in terms of club and association governance and write a paper outlining planned next steps from 2017 onwards.

Hockey SA Inclusion grant Hockey – the game for everyone! 3 years from 2016 to 2019 Increased staffing – Jose Rabet Marketing & Inclusion Officer Focus on: – Gender – Culture – Disability Current health of SPORT Current health of HOCKEY SA Comments Gender ✓✓✓ Positives: Board diversity, staff diversity, participation. Work ons: coaches & umpires too male dominant. Only 2 of 9 PL Club Presidents female. Age ✓✓✓ Board age range 30s to 50s; staff age range 20s to 50s; participation age range from 70 LGBT ✓✓✓ Positives: some LGBT members. Works ons: little recognition or proactive strategies. Disability XX Work ons: little or no recognition given or proactive strategies to celebrate. No alternate form of game. SHC facilities generally very disability unfriendly. Indigenous ✓ X Positives: some indigenous members. Works ons: Little recognition or proactive strategies. Cultural & Linguistic (CALD) ✓✓ Woodville team from Sikh community. Little recognition given or proactive strategies to celebrate.

Discussion points Hockey – the game for everyone! Interest in establishing intra-regional super leagues? – Hockey Vic developing a model and part way through consultation – E.g. Lincoln v Whyalla; Pirie v Barossa; Riverland v Sunraysia; Naracoorte v LSE etc. – 6-8 week season; overlap current season; finish later?; Hockey SA run; FA cup style playoffs? – If interested, then Hockey SA to develop a concept paper for consultation. Junior Country Champs – Hockey SA role from 2017
