The Work They Did The Immigrant Experience BY SUZANNE WEYN POWERPOINT BY ALISSA, MARI, EMILY, COLTON, COLIN, AUSTIN, MASON, AND DANIEL

Introduction  When you arrive to a new place you can’t understand what people are saying because you don’t speak the same language. You are an immigrant.  Most immigrants arrived in the U.S. during 1620 and They also arrived in 1880 to At the time there were more than 27,500,000 new people.

 Most immigrants came to the United States because they wanted rights of their own. Some left the cities for their own land and other poor moved wanting to make a fortune.  The trip was not easy. Some immigrants traveled many miles and took a dangerous journey. Huge ships headed East to the United States carrying 2,000 passengers for 2 weeks.

 Riding 0n the ships was uncomfortable. People wailed because they were sick.  Some immigrants came to Ellis Island. Some went to Angel Island. Before they left information was recorded and health checked.  When the immigrants came they made a “melting pot” of traditions.

Chapter 1: Factories and Mills By: Mason o Immigrants got jobs in factories and mills. o Some people were tired and grumbled about their jobs. o Miners worked for a long time and barely got paid. o To get under ground miners used mining shafts. o In 1980 people needed steel.
