Rohde & Schwarz Topex TOPEX EoneS July 2011

Agenda l Description l Topex Eones characteristics l Applicability l Conclusions

Description l It is both VoIP Gateway and Signaling Converter l Softswitch for small capacity Next Generation Network l SS7 interconnection solution

Networks VoIP networks: SIP,H.323 Fixed networks: SS7,ISDN, R2, R1.5, analog

Building blocks l It starts with a rack-chase - dimension 7U l You add the mandatory cards (source and processor) on the front-side of Topex Eones rack on the dedicated positions (1, 2 and 3,4); l You have another two special positions dedicated to the matrix cards – the positions 5 and 6; l Each 2E1 or VoIP card is connected on every CCC card; l All the cards are hot-pluggable – no need for restart when replacing 1 & 2 – Power supply cards 3 & 4 – PG cards 5 & 6 – CCC cards – matrix cards

Card components The other Topex Eones front-side cards can be: l 2E1 cards with signaling: l ISDN; l SS7; l R1; l R2. l VoIP cards with signaling: l SIP; l H323. l You can add up to 11 trunk cards (VoIP or E1) l The recommendation is to add the VoIP cards on the right side of the equipment (front view) near the CCC cards and the 2E1 cards on the left side

VoIP cards l Topex Eones can perform both SIPv2 and H323v4 signaling l VoIP cards scale 8/16/30/60 RTP channels l Topex Eones can perform transcoding functions l Its DSP “speak” G.711 A and μ law, G.723 and G.729 l Topex Eones can transmit T.38 Fax over IP

Topex fixed-line cards l ISDN-PRI and ISDN-BRI signaling QSIG, DSS1, Q.931 l SS7 signaling – MTP1, MTP2, MTP3 and ISUP l CAS R2, CAS R1.5, CAS DTMF l Custom signaling for special applications

Administration l Windows based GUI l CLI – Linux SSH console l Configuration in “real-time” – modifications happen as we speak

Applications l Gateway between VoIP and legacy PSTN l Multiprotocol Digital Switch l Signaling converter l Medium capacity digital phone exchange (up to 660 calls) l Hybrid telephony SME solution l Small capacity softswitch

Gateway between VoIP and legacy PSTN E1 interface SS7 signaling 300 VoIP channels signaled SIP or H.323 Up to 11 E1 trunks signaled either SS7 or ISDN-PRI ISDN network SS7 network VoIP network E1 interface RTP packets SIP or H.323 ISDN-PRI signaling

Small capacity softswitch l It can be Step One to a Next Generation Network migration l Can address both CLASS4 and CLASS5 applications l It controls other VoIP gateways Distant VoIP network Legacy TDM network IP connection GW Control

Signaling Converter l PSTN networks use various type of signaling l Topex Eones can convert one type of signaling to other types SS7 signaling ISDN signaling R2,R1.5 or custom signaling

Conclusions l Address a wide range of applications l Advanced diagnosis program that monitors the system operation allowing the remote operation l Well fitted solution for small-size VoIP carriers

Thank you!
