Niagara Peninsula Homes Presents The Team E.N.E.R.G.I Program (Enterprise Niagara for Employment Resources and Green Initiatives)

Niagara Peninsula Homes – proudly serving the community for 30 years

NPH Team ENERGI – working with housing providers across Niagara

Program Mission Statement Our goal is to help build a solid and sustainable future for all Niagara, by linking a motivated workforce – our youth - with various community projects in need of assistance. In other words, forming successful partnerships between individuals looking for training and work experience, and local groups looking for skilled help. The program supports the immediate needs of each community or group we work with, as well as the future needs of our labour force.

NPH Team ENERGI – investing in our youth now for the future

NPH Team ENERGI – teams of apprentices learn trade skills while improving affordable housing

NPH Team ENERGI – employment enhancements & work experience for local youth

The NPH Team ENERGI Program – what makes it so unique? 1.The ability to not only bring together the interests of multiple stakeholders in the community, but also inspire them in ways rarely seen before. The public, private, not- for-profit sectors and even the interests of the average person who may not choose to be directly engaged, but wishes at some deeper level to see and live in a community that puts its differences aside and works together to address the most significant issues with solutions that are responsible, sustainable and lead to our collective prosperity and growth. In other words, it is a program that respects and supports our common and collective interests while transcending all boundaries. 2.The ability to inspire our youth with a feeling of optimism and self-confidence that they can play an important role in helping rebuild our communities. Many of the youth we encounter feel entirely disenfranchised from the communities in which they live and the options they have in life. If they are lucky enough to get a job most have little hope of keeping it and are gone within a few months – often back into the current system of social supports. The program is intended to target youth with barriers and assist them to become more engaged in their own communities, more confident and more employable.

NPH Team ENERGI – at work in the community all across Niagara

Housing Providers: facing aging infrastructure, energy & water conservation issues & poor air quality

Housing Providers: facing major window replacement costs

NPH Team ENERGI Participants: able to perform much needed repairs and improvements

NPH Team ENERGI – forming successful partnerships in Niagara Since the program began in September 2009, support for the development and delivery of Team ENERGI has been provided by various funding partners: The Government of Canada, the Ontario Trillium Foundation, Niagara Community Foundation, Niagara Region Community Services (Ontario Works), Job Connect Program through Employment Ontario service offices (Job Gym, YMCA, Niagara College, Employment Help Centre) Capital funding for the purchase of materials and services to carry out the renovation and retrofit works with each housing provider was managed and delivered through Niagara Regional Housing, in large measure by SHRRP but also the NRC ecoEnergy/Ontario Home Energy programs as well as OPA MEER program. Private sector contributions were provided by local consultants, contractors and suppliers who have supported the initiative through bulk purchasing agreements and donations. Local employers have supported the program by providing training workshops and job placements for program graduates. Additional community support services are provided by many agencies such as; Climate Action Niagara, John Howard Society, Literacy Council, RAFT, DSBN, MTCU, LIUNA 863, Contact North, E-Learn Network, etc
