Hypercom – SharePoint Upgrade??? Tackling Culture Change and increasing SharePoint Adoption Michael Brooks Senior Consultant, Portals and Collaboration Practice Tory Douglas Senior Consultant, Portals and Collaboration Practice

Project Overview –Who is Hypercom? –Current SharePoint Challenges –Executive Vision for SharePoint Server 2007 –Initial Analysis Efforts –Project Approach –Overview of Logical Architecture Demos –Create Site Collection targeted to specific Content Database –Custom Solution for Common Navigation across Site Collections –Customizations to improve adoption ›Branding ›Weekly Employee Spotlight ›Product Spotlight Agenda

Who is Hypercom? Hypercom is a global provider of electronic payment solutions for consumers, merchants, and acquirers. Multiple locations all over Europe and just increased footprint with acquisition of European competitor TeT. Have you bought something recently at Best Buy or Target? Most devices are skinned, so you would never know it’s manufactured by Hypercom. Primary Customers Retailers (Best Buy, Target) Banks (Bank of America) Hospitals (Europe) Cigarette Vending Machines (Europe) - my personal favorite

SharePoint Portal Server 2003 –Proof of Concept became production…still evaluating! –Marketing…don’t know about it? (AK) –Training…don’t know how to use it? (AK) –Support…don’t know how to fix it or enhance it? (AK) –Overall Lack of Governance and Process (AK) –US Centric and no support for other languages (AK) –No support for External Party Collaboration Impact of Challenges –SharePoint developed a bad name and is way under utilized. –People found other ways to get things done. –Mass s still used for corporate communication – used extensively for attachments –Data stored and shared in multiple formats ›Network drives, FTP, Intranet Sites –Difficulty finding information: documents, people, etc. Current Challenges

Development of a Global Corporate Intranet –Single Point of Entry for all Hypercom Employees –Reduction of usage –Consolidated News/Announcements –Organization Chart (does not exist today) –People Finder –Search Increase collaboration across geographic regions –Regional/Departmental/Project Based Team Sites Allow for collaboration with External Parties Standardization of tools and technology –Consolidate Legacy Systems onto the MOSS platform Still no mention of marketing and training? Executive Vision

1.Employee Involvement (Marketing) –Met with every department in the US. –Conducted informal interviews with questionnaires ›Sample QuestionnaireSample Questionnaire ›Sample ResultsSample Results –Able to Identify SharePoint Champions (locally/globally) –Provide sense of ownership 2.Developed Proof of concept based on Vision and Initial Requirements –Demonstrated a new way to work (team sites, my sites, etc.) –Allowed for additional feedback and new requirements 3.“Global Corporate Intranet”…Three Week European Road Trip!!! –Visited their recent acquisition (TeT) Thales eTransactions and followed the same process in the US. –Mandatory to meet with Workers Council (Germany/France) – must approve all new applications! –Centralized vs. Geo-Distributed Architecture ›Load Testing using Visual Studio Team System 2008 Scenario Testing: light collaboration, medium collaboration, 2000 item list view, 50 MB document ›Bandwidth Testing –Analysis of existing portal systems for migration 4.Continuous Marketing –Created a Coming Soon Video, Name the Intranet Contest Initial Analysis

Phase 1 – Corporate Intranet –Tailored Training for Administrators and End-users (Intranet/Services Sites) –Initial Release with CEO Sponsorship –Allow for hands on experience with SharePoint before moving onto advanced collaboration features –Support - survey users again and continue to make revisions Phase 2 – Collaboration Space –Migrate existing portal applications –Tailored Training for Administrators and End-users (Collaboration Sites) –Initial Release with PMO Sponsorship –Hands on experience with team sites to understand advanced collaboration features before moving onto managing Extranet Sites. –Support - survey users again and make revisions, define templates, etc. Phase 3 – Extranet –Same process…blah, blah, blah. Phased Approach

Hypercom Design Mockup

Purpose –Help people in the organization get to know one another. –Help bring users back to the site. Consists of three major components –A custom history list in SharePoint to signify the users who have been displayed and the current user –A custom web part to read information from the users profile and display it to the user –A windows service that updates the history list at a specified interval Daily Employee Spotlight

Purpose –Provide insight to employees about Hypercom’s new products. This web part allows the user to flip through the new products, it also rotates on a timer as well. Clicking on the image or title will bring the user to the page details about the product. Consists of two major components –Pages List on a product sub site.
