Industry engagement with the SKA Julie Bellingham Science and Technology Facilities Council

 fund the best research in astronomy, nuclear and particle physics.  enable the research community to have access to the best facilities in the world, both in the UK and internationally.  increase the UK technology capability through engagement with industry and knowledge transfer.

International facilities include:

Tender opportunities Work with facilities to develop their procurement rules to increase fairness and access for UK companies Align companies to opportunities from international facilities Introduce companies to buyers through targeted events and site visits UK companies won M CHF (approx. £88M) in total in the last five years (2010 – 2014) from CERN alone.

Other support from STFC Provide funding for STFC researchers and business to collaborate Provide support to STFC researchers for commercialisation Provide opportunities to find partners / ideas / technologies Provide incubation for SMEs and start up companies

Advantages to industry Working with large research facilities has a big impact on the success of businesses. A case study of companies who worked with CERN have been able to develop new products, move into new sectors, increase their national and international exposure and grow their business. Technology transfer and technological learning through CERN’s procurement activity

Economic and intellectual return Enable UK companies to win contracts from SKA. Shaping the IT landscape Work with industry to meet the SKA global data collection and analysis requirements. Encouraging growth Assist companies to develop their company growth through connection to the SKA. and-space-science/uksic/ Aims for SKA
