The Brain Show By: Sadie Zimmerman, Giselle Guerra, Aldo Solorzano

Welcome to the one and only talk show in the country that is going to have a brain on the show. Today, on the Talk Show, we are going to be meeting Jake, as well as Bonnie the brain, herself. I am your host, Matilda. Hello, Jake. Hello, Matilda. It’s a pleasure to be here. Oh I’m glad you are here. Also, welcome to Bonnie the brain.

I am going to talk about myself today! What are we going to learn today? Yes, tell us, Bonnie, what are we going to learn today!? We are going to talk about two different kinds of mindsets people can have about learning.

Wow, great! Let’s hear about the two different kinds of mindsets. But first, can you tell us what a mindset is? A mindset is how you think or what you believe. Yay! I’m going to learn more about two different mindsets.

There are two different types of mindsets people can have about learning. Wow! Tell us more! I am going to tell you more!

I cannot wait to learn more. Yay!!!! Is this about knowing you can do something? Yes! There are two mindsets that people can have about learning. One is called the Fixed mindset. This means you are the way you are. If you think you are bad at something, you think you will always be bad at that thing.

Wow! That’s not a good way to think!! Yikes! I don’t want to have a fixed mindset about learning! Yes, no one should have a fixed mindset about learning. You should have a growth mindset.

What is a growth mindset? Yes, tell us more!! I will show you how to be all the things that you can be. It all starts with a growth mindset? What does the growth mindset of learning have to do with your brain?

I wonder that too? Does it have to do with your brain growing? It is believing that the brain can actually grow if you try challenging things or do new things. If you don’t learn new things, your brain may not grow as much. Wow! You can actually grow your brain?

That is amazing and interesting! Yes, you can grow your brain if you challenge yourself and do new things! Believing that is a growth mindset. Oh well, that’s interesting I did not know that.

Actually some scientists studied several rats’ brains. One group was put into a cage with just food and water. The other group was put into the cage with food, water, puzzles, exercise equipment and other things to work the brain. The rats with the puzzles and exercise equipment actually had larger brains at the end.

Wow, that brain of yours is amazing and talented! The brain is super cool! The growth mindset is when people believe they can change. When people don’t give up and use EFFORT, STRATEGIES and HARD WORK to help them get better at something.

What do you mean, effort, strategies and resources? Yes, that is exactly what it means! And does strategies mean what you use to help yourself accomplish your goal? Does effort mean how hard you work, doing your best, and not giving up?

YES!! You got it!! And does hard work mean you do your best and try something and never give up? That sounds right!! Now we know about a growth mindset!

Yes, you get it now! We could use it in school. If something is hard, instead of giving up, you should ask for help, use your mind, and think. So how can we use this in our lives?

How could you use this at home? Yeah, how do you use this at home? You can use it at home, if you play sports. Good athletes keep working.

Yeah, I heard about Michael Jordan. He didn’t even make his high school basketball team, and then he became one of the best players ever to play basketball. He needed to get help to become better, because he lost a lot of times. He had a growth mindset for sure, and used it when playing basketball. We can use it at school too! We can do anything in school we put our mind to doing!

Yes! Just like Michael Jordan. Everybody can have the growth mindset. With the growth mindset, anything is possible. Yes! We can do anything we try to do! This applies to school, sports and everything in life! Yes!! We have learned so much! Thanks for being on our show, Bonnie!

No problem. Now go use your growth mindset! Thank you for having me. We will!!

Think you for watching! bye!
