ICTW #6 12 September 2012

Heading: same every day: Left hand side of the paper IN THIS ORDER: First and Last Name ICTW # Date (MLA format) Period For example: Aaron Rogers ICTW #6 12 September 2012 Period 1

Any yellow/incorrect=no grade in gradebook. Make corrections to the heading and re- turn in. You must be meticulous with the heading.

Today’s ICTW will stay in your notes. We will build on this lesson throughout the week.

Introduction to Voice 1 Examine a self- portrait by Vincent Van Gogh, a famous artist. Think about how Van Gogh expresses his voice—his style or personality. Look carefully at the details of Van Gogh’s self- portrait.

Introduction to Voice 1 1.What is Van Gogh saying about himself? Complete these two statements as if you were the Van Gogh of this portrait. I am... I feel... Base your statements on the picture, not your own feelings. 2. Answer these questions: How do you know what Van Gogh is saying about himself? What evidence can you find in the picture that supports your statements?

Introduction to Voice 1 Think about how you would paint a self-portrait. What colors would you use? What expression would you have on your face? How would you be dressed? What kind of background would you have? Would you have anything else in the picture beside yourself? What would these choices say about you? Make a simple sketch of your self- portrait, and write a few sentences describing what you would like your self-portrait to look like. Your turn: 8 minutes

Switch Gears SOAPSTone

Take note on the SOAPSTone sheet: This is a holey document—do not lose it! This is a method of “attacking” text that we will use on a consistent basis (i.e. everything we read). This will elevate and develop your ability to think critically about a text. **Please note: Sometimes there will be a large amount of information in a short period of time--it is your job to figure out methods that will help you compartmentalize and organize the vital components presented. Ask for help if you need it, and remember that these daily PowerPoints are all online.

Title of the Text: Punctuate the title correctly HERE. BOOKS (novels), titles of newspapers or magazines, web pages, TV shows=underline when handwriting the title. (If typing, USE ITALICS) short stories, songs, ARTICLES, TV episode titles (in newspapers or magazines or online articles) put in “QUOTATION MARKS.”

Author: Please spell the name(s) correctly & capitalize the first letter(s)!
