Issuing Orders and Orders Extraction

The Orders Process HA Commander has to: HReceive Orders himself. HExtract from them what concerns his own command. HEstimate how best to achieve the mission. HPrepare orders for subordinates. HIssue orders.

ISSUING ORDERS HThe following points should be remembered: HProtection - Post a sentry HDistractions - Vehicles and Radios HConcealment - Lights etc HComfort - Shelter, Warmth HBrevity - Vulnerability

Do’s HMake your orders concise. HGive subordinates a thorough understanding of your intentions. HExplain the outline concept of your immediate commander. HIntegrate all subordinate elements in co- ordinated action. HAllow subordinates the maximum freedom of action.

Don’ts HTry to give detailed instructions covering every possible contingency. HSlavishly use every heading in the boxes. They are provided as a reminder of what you MIGHT need to cover.

Receiving Orders HBefore receiving orders you should: HStudy the Warning Order. Relate it to the Map and Ground if possible. HIssue Warning Order. HArrive at the Cdrs O Group early: H Study Maps, Air Photos, mark own maps. HYou may be able to supplement your Warning Order and send it with runner.
