DIGITAL PORTFOLIOS Alyssa Mendiola

GENERAL ADVANTAGES OF DIGITAL PORTFOLIOS They provide effective means for cataloguing and organizing learning materials. They enable students to integrate multimedia, allowing the use of a variety of tools to demonstrate and develop understanding. Students develop their information and communication technology skills (ICT). Their work can be easy to share with peers, parents and others by posting their portfolios on the Internet. Provide remote access for teachers and students.

ADVANTAGE OF DIGITAL PORTFOLIOS IN ART ASSESSMENT Provides the opportunity to consider the big ides while reflecting on and evaluating their creative process through self assessment. Create a venue for students to reflect on essential questions. Allows self-assessment, which requires higher order thinking skills. Allows theme to see themes and connections in their artwork they would otherwise have missed. Reinforces the technology TEKS and develops technical skills. Easy and convenient way to record work for the future. Enables them to create digital portfolios for college and scholarship applications.

GOALS OF DIGITAL PORTFOLIOS Help identify the advantages of digital portfolios for advanced art students. Give students the knowledge and understanding of how to create digital portfolios using Microsoft PowerPoint. Allow students to become familiar with AP portfolio requirements. Gets students used to reflecting on their artwork and creative processes in written form.

AP DRAWING PORTFOLIO REQUIREMENTS Section I – Quality 5 actual works that demonstrate mastery of drawing in concept, composition and execution. Section II – Concentration 12 pictures, some may be details. A body of work investigating a strong underlying visual idea in drawing. Written answers to the following two questions. What is the central idea of your concentration? How does the work in your concentration demonstrate the exploration of your idea? Section III – Breadth 12 pictures of 12 different works that demonstrate a variety of concepts and approaches in drawing.

DIGITAL PORTFOLIOS IN OTHER ADVANCED CLASSES Students take at least two other advanced art classes before they take AP. A good way to get them ready to create an AP portfolio is to have them create one in their advanced classes before they reach AP. Select 8-10 works that revolve around a central theme Take digital pictures and insert them into Microsoft PowerPoint Add written reflections for each piece of work. Encourage them to add transitions, animation and Music. Digital Portfolio example example Instructions
