Intro: Parts of Speech  There are 8 parts of speech:  Nouns  Verbs  Adjectives  Adverbs  Prepositions  Conjunctions  Pronouns  Interjections

Conjunctions  Conjunctions are connecting words that join things  Example: “or” joins but makes an option  What do you like best, dogs or cats?  Example: “and” adds things together in a sentence  I like baseball and soccer.

Using “and” / “or”  Sentence 1: I am going to play.  Sentence 2: I am going to study.  Using “and”:  I’m going to play and I’m going to study. Using “or”: I’m going to play or I’m going to study.

More conjunctions… “FANBOYS”  For  And  Nor  But  Or  Yet  So

Adjectives  Adjectives are words that describe nouns (person, place, thing, idea)  Adjectives are used to say how something feels, tastes, looks, sounds, etc.  Ex: The gray sky made me think it was going to rain at any moment.  Sometimes two adjectives are used to describe something.  Ex: The car was sleek and fast.

Pronouns & Proper Nouns  Pronouns take the place of nouns  They save us from repeating the same name or thing over and over again  Pronouns are words such as:  It  He  She  They  Ex: Joe won the new car and he jumped with joy.

Proper Nouns  Something’s own name  Includes nicknames, pet names, places, cities, etc.  All proper nouns start with a capital letter

Interjections  Interjections are words or short phrases that show strong emotion or surprise I a sentence.  Ex: Hey! Don’t kill flies with my new shoes!  Ex: Yikes! That’s a long way down
