Presentation transcript:

Lines! Can a line represent emotions, sound and other concepts? What are two types of line? Does color help to express abstract concepts?

Using only lines, Draw lines that would represent the following concepts…

A sound of an approaching train

A taste of a hot pepper

A smell of a fresh baked apple pie

A feeling of lonliness

A feel of lamb skin

A sound of an alarm at 5:30 am.

Assignment Think of some significant moments in your life… How could you represent them in only lines? How could you make a self portrait with only abstract lines? In your sketchbook, sketch out at least 3 ideas of an abstract line self-portrait with a 3-5 sentence explanation for each. – Remember, they are SKETCHES they don’t have to be absolutely perfect. Take your time and think about what you are drawing, but it is not your final piece. This assignment will be collected on FRIDAY! From there, the sketch you like the most will be drawn on a larger piece of paper with a little more detail and thought than your sketch.

Things to think about… Visual Weight Line size Line thickness UNITY

Visual Weight… Balance is really important in pieces, and knowing where the visual weight is, helps with the balance. If one side is too “heavy” then the composition will seem off Two ways to help with the visual weight is the rule of thirds and the rule of odds
