Citizen… “ A native or naturalized member of state or nation who owes allegiance to its government and is entitles to its protection.”

Rights of a U.S. Citizen Voting in federal elections Being able to serve on a jury Travel with U.S. passport Being able to run for federal office Being able to obtain federal grants and scholarships

Responsibilities Defending and supporting our constitution Serving our country in the military (when needed) Respecting the laws of the U.S. Respecting individual rights of others Being active in your community

Different Kinds of Citizenship Citizenship through Naturalization Citizenship through a parent Dual Citizenship

Citizenship through Naturalization Granted to someone who is… – A permanent resident – Green card holder Citizenship is given to someone who was not naturally born here in the United States

Citizenship through a parent Born outside of U.S. At least one parent is a U.S. citizen
