Provided by AISD Safe & Secure Schools Department 2 Your Classroom Management and Discipline Plan Objective You will be able to summarize your vision, classroom organization, and discipline procedures into a concise document that can be used by your building administrator, substitute teachers, and yourself.

Provided by AISD Safe & Secure Schools Department 3 Final Preparations Develop a modified daily or class schedule for the first day of school. Make a sign for the classroom. Prepare an initial activity for students to work on when they enter the room. Prepare a plan for dealing with families who may want to take time on the first day of school.

Provided by AISD Safe & Secure Schools Department 4 Implement Your Plan on Day One Determine how the Day One schedule will be displayed—on the board, an overhead transparency, or flip chart. Determine how students will be greeted individually as they enter the room. Determine how to get students' attention as soon as the bell rings.

Provided by AISD Safe & Secure Schools Department 5 Implement Your Plan on Day One (Continued) Determine how essential classroom information will be communicated in the first ten minutes of the day or class. Determine how to teach an attention signal. Understand the three-step process for communicating expectations.

Provided by AISD Safe & Secure Schools Department 6 Implement Your Plan on Day One (Continued) Determine how to begin teaching students behavioral expectations for activities and transitions. Determine how to observe student performance of the behavioral expectations (during activities and transitions) using circulating and visual scanning. Determine how to give individual students and the entire class positive feedback about their behavior during and after activities and transitions.

Provided by AISD Safe & Secure Schools Department 7 Implement Your Plan on Days 2 Through 20 (The First Four Weeks) Determine how to use the three-step process of teaching, observing behavior, and giving feedback to communicate behavioral expectations during the first month of school. As an elementary teacher, determine how to help students learn the behavioral expectations of the specialists with whom they will have class.

Provided by AISD Safe & Secure Schools Department 8 Implement Your Plan on Days 2 Through 20 (The First Four Weeks) (Continued) Determine how to verify students understand the behavioral expectations that you have of them.
