Today you will read a nonfiction piece, then explain the controlling idea and specific purpose by creating an analytical paragraph. Brainstorm the following questions. Be prepared to discuss them in depth in about 15 minutes: 1. Overall, would you recommend the novel to friend? Explain. 2. Why do you think it was an option for your summer reading assignment? 3. You were to focus on figurative language in your responses. What was one you focused your attention on? Why? 4. Go back and read the opening scene? Why do you think the author began his/her novel with this scene? OR 4. How else would you imagine it could have ended? 5. Choose one of the responses you wrote for your assignment and be prepared to read it to your group. Friday August 29 {TEK: 8; ELPS:4J, 4K}
