+ IT Project and Program Management Successfully managed IT projects increase productivity and increase profits IT projects differ from other projects in one way: IT projects deal with a business’s data and may involve several different systems

+ Project Management Fundamentals - The practice of applying knowledge, skills and processes to activities in order to meet deadlines and achieve desired results - a sequence of tasks that must be accomplished within a certain time frame to achieve a desired result - a unit of work that must be accomplished during the course of the project - A person, department or device needed to accomplish a task - The appointment of a specific resource to a specific task Project Management Project Task Resource Assignment

+ Scope and Scope Creep - the goals and tasks of a project, and the work required to complete them - are the gradual increases in project cope that can undermine the success of a project Usually affects the schedule, cost or performance required to complete the project Scope Scope Creep

+ Project Management Skills - the ability to identify the tasks that constitute a project, understand the ways in which tasks are dependent upon one another, and know the ways that project dependencies will affect the project as a whole - the ability to help project participants coordinate and prioritize their tasks to stay within the project scope - the ability to gather information from customers at the beginning of a project, and keep project participants informed of the project’s status - the ability to quickly identify problems and propose solutions - the ability to teach effectively Planning Skill Organizational Skill Communication Skill Problem-Solving Skill Leadership Skill

+ Project Management Phases – you will conduct a needs analysis, determine project objectives, assumptions and constrains, and develop a Statement of Work (SOW) – you develop a product schedule and assemble to project team – you troubleshoot problems and take corrective measures to ensure that all objectives are being met – your coordinate people and other resources to carry out the project plan and project work is performed – you should determine the aspects of the project that worked well and the changes that should be implemented in the future Initiation Phase Planning Phase Controlling Phase Execution Phase Closing Phase

+ Project Management Phases Cont’d At the end of the initiating phase a needs to be completed by the project manager. This defines the ways that project success will be measured.
