How do you see things? What is a Sociological Perspective? - Human behavior - Society as a whole It invites us to look for the connections between the behavior of individual people What is a Theoretical Perspective? What is a Theoretical Perspective? A theory is a perspective ( point of view) - How and Why something occurs - Way it happens Perspective Perspective –

Renaissance Renaissance – “Rebirth”   History

Renaissance Renaissance – “Rebirth”  In 1435, Leon Battista Alberti ( ), provided the first theory of what we now call linear perspective by using math calculations.  Renaissance artists turned to the use of perspective to enhance their compositions, - Alberti - Leonardo - Raphael  raphaelperspective1.html History

Renaissance Renaissance – “Rebirth”  The Renaissance artists studied nature wanted to draw nature and life more realistically.  They learned to create lifelike people and animals  Became more skilled at creating the illusion of depth and distance on flat walls and canvases.  Lenardo DaVinci Artists

3 Points Perspective

6 Vocabulary Definitions  Horizon Line ~ A mathematical system for creating the illusion of space and distance on a flat surface such as a canvas or wall. It is usually drawn at the viewer’s eye level and runs horizontal on the page.  Linear Perspective ~ Parallel lines that assist with creating the illusion of space and distance.  Vanishing Point ~ The single point in a picture where all parallel lines that run from the viewer to the horizon line appear to come together. The vanishing point is generally placed at the viewer's eye level. As things get further away from us, they get smaller and closer together.  One-point Perspective ~ All the horizontal lines go straight across. The lines move away from us. The sides of railroad lines/tracks in front of us converge towards the center of the picture.  Converging lines ~ lines meet in the center  Orthogonal Lines ~ Straight diagonal lines drawn to connect points around the edges of a picture to the vanishing point. They represent parallel lines receding into the distance and help draw the viewer's eye into the depth of the picture. Perspective
