1
How to draw in 1 Point Linear An Artist’s Tool for showing Space and Form

2
How to draw in 1 point perspective You will need a –Ruler -- Pencil –Eraser –8x11 paper

3
Where is the vanishing point? The horizon line? Converging Lines?

4
To draw a solid object in 3-D You must know the Vanishing point Horizon line Converging lines (diagonal lines to the VP)

5
Draw the horizon line with a ruler near the middle of your paper. 6” down6” down

6
Find the center of the paper, and put the vanishing point (a small dot) on the horizon line.

7
Draw a box below the horizon line using your ruler. 1 inch height 2inch width

8
Using your ruler, draw lines connecting the corners of the box to the vanishing point.

9
Using your ruler, draw a line between the orthogonal lines that is parallel to the front of the box.

10
Erase the orthogonal lines that are between the back of the box and the vanishing point.

11
This is a box sitting on the ground in front of you. You can see over the top of it. At Eye View Birds’-Eye View

12
Draw another box that is taller and crosses the horizon line. 3” height 2” Width

13
Using your ruler, draw lines connecting the corners of the box to the vanishing point.

14
Using your ruler, draw a line between the orthogonal lines that is parallel to the side of the box.

15
Erase the orthogonal lines that are between the back of the box and the vanishing point. Normal Perspective Birds’-Eye View

16
This box is sitting on the ground but you cannot see the top of it.

17
Draw a box above the horizon line in the right corner of your paper. 1/2” Height 1” Width

18
Using your ruler, draw lines connecting the corners of the box to the vanishing point.

19
Using your ruler, draw a line between the orthogonal lines that are parallel to the side and front of the box.

20
Erase the orthogonal lines that are between the back of the box and the vanishing point. W Birds’-Eye View Normal Perspective Worm’s Eye view

Assignment 1: Using your ruler, draw 6 boxes or shapes in 1 point perspective around the vanishing point and horizon line. This is an example. Your paper will look different.

25
Are these letters in perspective?

26
Assignment 2: Measure down 4inches and draw a line across the page. Then measure down 4 1/2 inches from that line and draw a line across the page. 1” 3 1/2 “ 3/4” 3/4“ 3/4” 3 1/2 3/4” 3/4“ 3/4” 3 1/2 “ 3/4” 3/4“ 3/4”

27
Assignment 2: 3-D letters Using a ruler: 1. Draw the horizon line 2 inches from the top of the paper and the vanishing point in the middle of the paper 2. Lightly sketch your initials in block letters.

28
3. Using a ruler, draw the converging lines from each corner to the vanishing point. 4. Do NOT Draw Through the Letter. 5. You STOP when you reach another line.
