Victoria University - School to University Programs Early Uni Pathways Program Yr 12 UNI- STUDY 2016

Snapshot of benefits of Yr 12 EUP? Confidence in being at university Familiarity with facilities, campus and teaching approaches, VU online learning system Experience of university learning Two free university units in Yr 12 No HECS Two free university units in Yr 12 No HECS Students still need to pay Student Amenity Fee of $70.00 in Year 12 Qualifications at the unit level A guaranteed place in the university course in the following year if you have an ATAR of 50 and pass the course units A University Transcript of your unit results for employment Credits into other VU Courses. Negotiated credits at another university Credits into other VU Courses. Negotiated credits at another university A 5 th or 6 th VCE subject The university 2 unit subject counts for both your VCE and your 1 st year of uni.

Some background EUP Schools Students from 11 schools have been invited to participate in the Yr 12 EUP Yr 12 Uni Study Program in 2016 (only students from VU EUP Partnership schools are eligible to participate ) History Of EUP The Year 12 program had a limited trial in 2014 (8 students) and a full trial in 2015 (24 students). Pre requisites Some students from some schools will have completed an EUP transition Unit in Year 11 (Uni Link). This is very helpful but not a pre requisite for undertaking EUP Year 12. Schools and the EUP team will discuss the suitability of students who apply to study EUP Yr 12 study.

UNI- STUDY YR Full year study made up of 2 higher education units – equivalent to a Unit 3 and Unit 4 VCE Study The university units are VCAA approved to contribute to your ATAR in the same way as a 5 th or 6 th subject Choice of 12 university subjects – each comprising of 2 units – 1 per semester. Timetables are negotiated between VU and your school. Classes are run at a variety of times so we hope that one will suit you. Usually you visit a VU campus once a week for 3 hrs. Sometimes you just visit the campus for a tutorial but access the lecture component on line if the time doesn’t suit. Cost. You don’t pay tuition fees for your 2 units (approx $3000). However you need to pay your Student Amenities Fee (SAF) of around $72.00 per semester for a part time student. This gives you a student number to access on-line materials, use the library and access other VU facilities.

How does EUP support you in your study? There is individualised support for you in undertaking your university units. – All EUP students are linked a University Transition Mentor (students currently studying at the university in your chosen area of study. – All EUP students are linked to an Academic support staff member to assist with your assessments and academic work. The EUP team organises a two day orientation prior to beginning your first unit to prepare you and has a Catch –Up Day in your mid year holiday to take feedback from you and to give you early information about your second unit. You can access all general university support available face to face and on-line. Your Transition Mentors will help you access this. Support from the EUP team – keeps in some contact with your lecturers and your schools to help if there are particular issues. – sends out extra support material around how to do some administration requirements (eg paying your SAF fee on line)

2017 Guaranteed places in selected VU university courses for 2017 conditional on a pass in the 2016 EUP uni units, an ATAR of 50 (no matter what the VTAC stated ATAR of the course is) and prerequisite subjects for the course. You do not need to go through VTAC to take up this place – you get a VU Early offer. Advanced standing for two units in 2017 at VU (or later if you take a gap). Normally you do 8 units in a year – you will only need to do 6. These credits are already paid for you as part of the EUP program so you will not have to pay tuition fees or have a HECS debt for these units. If you want a different course to the guaranteed course you have been offered you can enter VU through VTAC in the normal way and the units may be elective credits in other courses so you still have the advantage of the Advanced Standing. Although VU can’t guarantee you credits in another university, this can very often be negotiated with the particular university. You may get both units as credits, get one or none.

Making VCE and University Work for Yr 12 The university will work around VCE requirements – e.g. exam dates. The university and schools will work together around the timetable. You will begin uni subjects later than VCE – early March. You need to attend in one week of Easter break but you have extra time at the mid year break. Difference Your university marks will look different to VCE: HD – High Distinction, D -Distinction C-Credit P-Pass N- Fail Difference Your university marks will look different to VCE: HD – High Distinction, D -Distinction C-Credit P-Pass N- Fail Difference Universities don’t use dates – they use Week numbers Week 1 to Week 12 of the semester. Where to next for yr 12? Discuss subject choices with parents, teachers and career teachers. University career teachers are also available if you wish. Let your school coordinator know your Uni study choices by their Completing EUP Application but have a back up school subject choice just in case. We will work with schools on timetables to best accommodate your preferences. We will let you know the outcomes asap The uni will commence its enrolment process at the end of 2015.
