Map of Temperate Grassland
Geologic Features Soil is deep and dark. It has a lot of nutrients from decaying and tall branches. The rotted roots hold the soil together and gives a food supply to for living plants.
Temperature and precipitation Precipitation usually happens during late spring and temperate grasslands usually get 20-35 inches worth of rain. The temperature can be very wide in range. In the summer it can be over 100 degrees Fahrenheit and in the winter it can be usually under -40 degrees Fahrenheit
Types of plants Oats- Starchy grain used in cereal. Rye- A species of grass that grows in tufts. Wheat- A species of grass that is used for human and animal consumption
Types of animals Coyotes, Hawks, skunks, Jack Rabbits, Prairie dogs, and Deer. Hawks are birds that prey on small animals. Coyotes are animals that look like wolves that prey on small animals.
Adaptations of Organisms Coyotes have sharp teeth and claws to hunt animals and get food. Hawks have very good eyesight to see small animals from high in the air. Bison have horns for protection from animals.
Human Impact on Temperate Grasslands Humans have impacted this biome by creating most of the areas that are grasslands into farm land. Also the cows that eat away at the grass is not that good. Also the chemical that is spray can kill some organisms and also can spread. What can be done about the survival of the grassland? What can be done is that the government can put limitations on the amount of grassland we use and develop farm land out of it.
