Republic of Trinidad and Tobago Ministry of National Security Presentation on Transnational Organised Crime

SUMMARY OF CORE TRENDS All forms of illicit trafficking follow the same path: one good transits out, another good transits in. Gangs are better organized, merging and involved in transnational organized crime (TOC). SALW murders and drug related assassinations increasing as criminals compete for markets. Strong nexus exists between Terrorism and TOC (mainly in the illicit drugs and firearms trade as they aim to maximize efforts/profits). Trafficking/Smuggling on the increase, offenders are aggressively pursued in CMS. Cyber Attacks and Electronic Financial Crimes are increasing. Terrorism: Grave threats posed by Recruiters/Financiers and Returning Regional (Foreign) Fighters.

CURRENT THREAT PICTURE 1 Proliferation of Small Arms and Light Weapons (SALW) 2 Nationalities Of Interest Traversing CARICOM Member States 3 Transnational Organized Crime (TOC) 4 Gangs: Transnational Organized Crime Nexus 5 Trafficking/Smuggling: Human, Narcotics, Weapons, Illicit Goods 6 TERRORISM
