To increase minimum wage for Plantation Workers Within 2 years

Background & Justification  Sri Lanka Plantation sector has different minimum wage  Minimum wages changes every two years through collective bargaining only tea estate workers.  Coconut, Rubber plantation sector has no fixed minimum wages.

Justification Sri Lanka have high cost of living Estate workers haven’t medical facilities, Sanitary facilities, CPI changes every year. Minimum wage for rubber and coconut estate workers.

Target Group Estate Workers

Parties involved Employers Federation – EFC Labour Department Labour Advisory Council Estate Owners Plantation Company.

Objectives Within two years to increase the minimum wage rate by 10% above the basic cost of living.

Activities to achieve the objectives Publicity Campaign (media) Presentation of the date to the Employers and Government on the cost of living. Gather support from other trade union federation. Seek ILO assistance. Awareness programme for Trade Union Leaders and Members and workers.
