Presentation transcript:

What is PDF?  Each group is required to create a Product Development File (PDF).  The PDF is a series of documents that cover the entire history of the design.  When completed, the information stored in this file is used to draft a final/final report.  The PDF and final report will be graded on completeness and quality of both the design and the documentation used to support design decisions.

What is PDF? (Cont.) The following documents are included in the PDF: 1.The specification development / planning phase  Statement of Need / Problem Statement  Product Design Requirements  Program Plan 2.The conceptual design phase  Conceptual Design Development  Concept Evaluation 3.The product (detail) design phase  Product Generation  Product Evaluation Note: The cover page for each document in the PDF must be dated and signed.

Final Report The completed Product Development File is used to draft a brief report. The report must clearly describe a single solution for the assigned design problem. Proper specifications and engineering drawings are required.

Main Parts of a Final Report  Cover  Title Page  Executive Summary written in non-technical terms very short and informative gives an overview of the report structure  Table of Contents  Introduction identifies the design problem provides background information

Main Parts of a final Report (cont.)  Discussion a narrative that provides all the details, evidence, and data briefly discuss why equally valid alternatives were dismissed  Conclusions  Recommendations  References  Appendices supporting data which rightly belong in the discussion but, if included, it would disrupt and clutter the major narrative inserted in the order that they are referenced in the report.
