By the school № 50 «Dream Team» Christmas all over the world Christmas is a public holiday which is popular all over the world. It is the day on which Christians celebrate the birth of Christ each year. Every nation and every country has its own customs and traditions. We would like to tell you about Christmas in China, Czech Republic and Iceland.

Christmas in China Christmas in China is celebrated on 25 December. The festival lasts for about 23 days. The Spring Festival is a national holiday in China. Government offices, schools, universities and many companies are closed during the celebration. Many people clean their homes to welcome the Spring Festival. They decorate their homes with red lanterns.

Christmas in China In the evening of the Spring Festival Eve, many people set off fireworks and firecrackers. Many people wear new clothes and send Chinese New Year’s greetings to each other. Chinese people prefer to celebrate the Christmas Eve by eating Christmas dinners with friends. Exchanging Christmas cards, small, inexpensive gifts with close friends and family is popular.

Christmas in Iceland Icelanders have very original way to celebrate the New Year. In fact, they respect more their traditional celebration of Yule. In it’s celebration there are many strange and happy traditions. We would like to tell you about some of them.

Christmas in Iceland «Jolasveinar» is a Father Christmas-troll. The legend says, that 13 Jolasveinars come to children and give them presents. But if the child behaves badly, Jolasveinar will gift him a big potato!

Christmas in Czech republic The traditional Christmas dish in the Czech republic is fried carp. Every Czech family cooks fried carp and potato salad for Christmas dinner.

Christmas in Czech republic Christmas meal is full of different ancient customs. For example, you should have an even number of plates for your guests. If the number of guests is uneven, you should put an extra plate. There is also a superstition. A housemaid shouldn’t leave her place during the holiday supper. Everything should be close at hand.

Christmas in Czech republic At the same day people celebrate Bear Christmas there. They feed bears with sweets. The bears live in a moat in the suburb of Prague.
