Instruction and Assessment Common Core Instruction Measuring student progress  NYS/PARCC Common Core Assessment Programs  Student progress is measured Daily by teachers Perhaps weekly or monthly by schools or districts Annually by States Every few years nationally Educational technology and dual use (instruction and assessment) devices EngageNY.org2

NAEP may need to be substantially reengineered in order to address four emerging trends: 1. Emerging computer-based assessments that can be aggregated and compared across districts and states; 2. Rapidly changing technology that is influencing how schools teach and where students learn; 3. New and more complex skill requirements for all students such as those defined by the Common Core State Standards (CCSS); and 4. Increasing interest in cross-national comparisons. 3 EngageNY.org3

Two testing events that comprise score  Performance Based (3/2 sessions) at 75% point with 20-day administration window  End of year (2/2 sessions) at 90% point with 20-day administration window Estimated time on task – 8 to 10 hours, depending on grade Device counts for schools with three tested grades (K-5, 6-8, 9-12)  Minimum – one device for every two students in largest tested grade  Recommended – one device per student for largest tested grade Latest on PARCC 4EngageNY.org4

Do we believe that educational technology is a component of high quality instruction? If so, how can we support Ed Tech as part of the core instructional program  Title funds  Textbook funds  Microsoft funds Aspirational targets and benchmarks to Evaluate progress next year How will we get there? 5EngageNY.org5
