Scratch Principle II Guideline 5 Checkpoint 5.1 Use Multiple Media for Communication

About Scratch Age Group: Scratch is designed especially for ages 8 to 16, but is used by people of all ages Content Area: Scratch helps young people learn to think creatively, reason systematically, and work collaboratively — essential skills for life in the 21st century. Technology Involved: Internet connection

Key Considerations How does this help learners meet the goal? Scratch helps young people learn to think creatively, reason systematically, and work collaboratively — essential skills for life in the 21st century. It will help them to accomplish goals that are required by NYS Common Core Standards. It helps with reading, writing and using creativity in whatever subject they are doing.

How does this account for the variability of all learners? Students are learning with Scratch at all levels (from elementary school to college) and across disciplines (such as math, computer science, language arts, social studies). Educators share stories, exchange resources, ask questions, and find people on the ScratchEd website. This allows students the varied different ways to express what they are learning.

Are there multiple ways for learners to communicate what they know? With using technology it allows students to research and make their own videos. It also allows students to be creative in how they show what they have learned. The ability to code computer programs is an important part of literacy in today’s society. When people learn to code in Scratch, they learn important strategies for solving problems, designing projects, and communicating ideas.

The programs and games that are used on this site are fantastic. They go from one subject to another. They have learning games and videos for all students to watch and learn. The students actively participate in the games and videos. I have found the site to be very upstanding and fun to watch and learn. Students will have fun learning and participating in them. It will help students to grasp and have an understanding of the programs. I have added one of the video websites for all to look at. Hope you enjoy.
