Using Technology in ELI Emerging Leaders Institute 2000

Introduction All ELI classes must face the challenge of collaborating with colleagues over great distances. With the wide acceptance of the internet as a communication resource new networking tools have emerged. Most of these tools are low-cost or free

ELI and Technology This presentation will outline… How the ELI Class of 2000 used the technology of eGroups.com as tool for communicating and accessing information The capabilities and benefits provided by the eGroups The role of the eGroups in creating an on-line network for ELI members

Past ELI Classes The ELI class had to first decide how they were going to deal with the traditional problems experienced by ELI classes. Past ELI classes complained of a lack of communication between trainer and class members, lack of communication regarding project status between members, lack of involvement of some class members and problems in sharing research and documents.

How Do We? Project planning Conduct ELI meetings Professional Development Discussion of issues related to project Increase ELI Involvement Collaborate and store Manuscript writing Announce events Coordinate Research

On-Line ELI Network Of course, technology is no substitute for meeting face-to-face, but a combination of face-to-face meetings and using technology to continue communication in-between can be extremely effective in creating an On-Line Network.
