Logos & Slogans Creating product identity through graphics and words

What is a logo? A logo is a symbol It is something that people will come to associate with a product or service It should create instant recognition of the company or service

Why have a logo? Logos create brand awareness Logos represent what your company does, how professional the company is, and what the company stands for in the business world

Who creates logos? Anyone can create a logo Professional graphic artists and/or advertising agencies create most of the large corporate logos Clip art, paint programs, or just paper and pen will suffice

What is a slogan? A slogan can be a jingle (“You deserve a break today…”) A slogan can be a catchy phrase (“Just Do It”) (“Like a rock”) A statement of commitment (“We never stop working for you”)

Why have a slogan? It helps consumers remember the product or service It should be flexible – MasterCard “priceless” commercials show many examples

Who creates slogans? Anyone can come up with a slogan Advertising agencies are paid big bucks to come up with creative slogans that work to create brand identity The challenge is to create a slogan that fits the product or service, and to create one with a lasting impression

When creating a logo or slogan… Who is your target audience? How will the slogan and logo appeal to them? What do you want your audience to remember about your product or service, and how will the logo/slogan help? What feeling does your logo/slogan convey?

Your next video assignment… Create a storyboard for a second commercial for your product Incorporate a logo and a slogan in your storyboard Incorporate at least one method of persuasion used by advertisers in your storyboard When completed paste the storyboard into your Junior Enterprise Project and complete the section on logo and slogan.
