Presentation transcript:

Part I – 50% of grade  40 Multiple Choice Questions  90 Minutes  Obviously minutes per question.  Do the EASY ones FIRST!

Part II – 50% of grade  5 Free Response Questions and 1 Investigation – 90 minutes total  Use approximately 1 hour for FRQs – Each one is 15% of Part II score.  Use approximately 30 minutes for Investigation – 25% of Part II score

 Answer the question that is being asked.  Explanations and conclusions must be given in CONTEXT  Do not do a DUMP of everything you know. You will actually gets points deducted for doing this. Be focused. Be clear, concise and correct!

 For confidence intervals and hypothesis tests, make sure to state conditions AND how you can reasonably say that they are met.  Use inference procedures (confidence intervals and hypothesis tests) to make a conclusion about data. Just looking at the data and giving your opinion is NOT acceptable.

 Know the difference between samples, sampling distributions and populations.  Verify conditions for binomial and geometric random variable problems, too.

Advice on MC  Read carefully.  Keep scoring in mind. Be strategic. 1 point for each correct answer. THERE ARE NO LONGER DEDUCTIONS FOR INCORRECT RESPONSES. When time is running out and you have blank answers left, go ahead and try to make an educated guess. If all else fails, make a wild guess!

4Complete Response NO statistical errors and clear communication 3Substantial Response Minor statistical errors/omissions or fuzzy communication 2Developing Response Important statistical errors/omissions or lousy communication 1Minimal Response A “glimmer” of statistical knowledge related to the problem 0Inadequate Response No glimmer; statistically dangerous to himself and others

Advice on FRQ  Usually in order of difficulty from easiest to hardest BUT do not feel pressured to work in order.  Make sure you leave enough time for the Investigation ( minutes)  You do not have to answer in paragraph form. Organized and clear bullet points are okay. Showing your work through equations is okay.

Advice on FRQ  If you have to make a graph, label and scale the axes and give it a title. Do not spend too much time making it a work of art!  Don’t refer to a graph on your calculator screen that you have not sketched on the test.  Write neatly and efficiently. Shoot for CONCISE, CLEAR, CORRECT

Advice on FRQ  Don’t expect the reader to make inferences from your writing.  Don’t contradict yourself.  Avoid personal opinions and philosophical insights in your responses UNLESS YOU ARE SPECIFICALLY ASKED TO DO SO.

Advice on FRQ  Do not write directions for calculator button- pushing on the exam.  Avoid calculator syntax such as normalcdf or 1-PropZTest  Don’t give parallel solutions. Decide on the best path and follow it. If one solution is correct and one is incorrect, your answer will be graded as INCORRECT.

Advice on FRQ  The amount of space does not necessarily indicate how much you should write. You don’t have to fill the entire space.
