CHARITY RESEARCH Jamie Long

RESEARCH - I completed some primary and secondary research about the NSPCC to find out more about the charity and what they do. - The secondary research included visiting the NSPCC website. Here I found out stories about children who have previously been abused and how the charity has worked to give these children a happier and safer upbringing. - After conducting secondary research from the NSPCC website, I conducted my own secondary research by ing the NSPCC asking them to send me some facts and figures if possible. You can find my primary and secondary research on the next couple of slides. - The data collected in this research will help me to understand further what the NSPCC does. This will make it easier when I script my advert as I will be able to make it properly link with the charity itself.

ABOUT THE NSPCC (SECONDARY RESEARCH) - The NSPCC are a leading charity that aims to help to help children suffering from abuse. - They are working in every community, working with families to give children a better childhood. - They work directly with children and families in over 40 service centres across the UK from protecting children from sexual abuse, through to helping families who misuse drugs and alcohol and providing social workers with the tools they need to tackle neglect. - They visit 9-11 year olds in schools, helping them to understand what abuse is and giving them the confidence to speak out and seek help if they ever need it. - They have a service called ‘ChildLine’ where children can anonymously talk to counsellors on the phone or via the internet. This is a key service as it is important that children have somebody to trust and talk to about their issues. Adults can also use this service if they are worried about their child being bullied for example, or to seek help. NSPCC, (n.d.). About us. [online] Available at: [Accessed 14 Dec. 2015].

ABOUT THE NSPCC (PRIMARY RESEARCH) - My original to NSPCC enquiries asking for some information to help with my appeal.

ABOUT THE NSPCC (PRIMARY RESEARCH) -The response from the NSPCC giving me details about the charity to help with my research. They gave me some information and some further links to help with my research.

ABOUT THE NSPCC (PRIMARY RESEARCH) I asked thirty students at college three questions each: 1) Have you heard of the NSPCC? YES – 28 Students NO – 2 Students 2) Have you contributed to support the NSPCC? YES – 17 Students NO- 13 Students 3) Do you feel that the NSPCC sufficiently advertises to support young people? YES – 21 Students NO – 9 Students

WAS THE RESEARCH EFFECTIVE? The secondary research helped me understand what the charity did and I learnt how the NSPCC set out to help disadvantaged children. Secondary research was much faster to conduct as I only had to visit the website of the charity and browse through their pages before I found lots of information. The primary research took much longer to conduct as I had to set out to ask the questions myself. This is much more time consuming. The from the NSPCC was much easier than the questionnaire. The response gave me the necessary information that I needed to help with my research. The questionnaire was the most time consuming although it was only a few questions per person. The information received from this survey was interesting although didn’t help me during the charity appeal itself.

WAS THE RESEARCH EFFECTIVE? 2 When creating my charity campaign, this research was very effective as it heled me to understand the audience that the charity are trying to target. I looked at some old NSPCC adverts which can also be found on my blog to find out how the charity creates it adverts to make them appeal to their audience. This can be found here: contextual-analysis-of-existing-charity-appeals/ contextual-analysis-of-existing-charity-appeals/ Conducting the research helped me to properly understand who the charity try to target and how I should create my advert to attract the correct demographic. The research about the charity also made it much easier to create the advert itself as I had all of the necessary information that I needed for the script and I knew that the information was reliable as much of it come from the website of the charity.
