Dutch East IndiesDutch East Indies  Dutch began a Dutch East India Company in 1600s  Dutch wanted profits  Crops: coffee, indigo, spices

Britain in Southeast AsiaBritain in Southeast Asia  Britain took Burma in 1886  Prior to being taken over, Burma suffered several wars  Britain also took Malaya- a trading port

French in Southeast AsiaFrench in Southeast Asia  French sent Christians missionaries to Vietnam  Vietnam tried to suppress Christianity  French took over Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia  Lands became known as French Indochina
