Presentation transcript:

English The world is currently celebrating 400 years since the death of William Shakespeare. Falcon Class will be using this an opportunity to study the play ‘The Tempest’. (Andrew Matthews & Tony Ross version) There will be a strong cross curricular focus using art, dance, drama and history to support their learning. The children will create character profiles, use poetry to cast spells and art to create posters on Caliban! The children will use similes to describe scenes and characters from the play. The class will continue to work on narrative pieces and become more precise in their application of grammar and punctuation. Towards the end of the summer term the children will use drama to create their own interpretation of the play. Science Plant Survival The children will continue to look at plant survival. They will recognise the requirements of plants for life and growth and will do this through observation and taking care of their class plants. They will look particularly at the lifecycle of a plant. Animals Including Humans There will be many cross curricular links with this topic and PSHE. The children will explore the human body and our basic needs. They will look at the importance of staying healthy for animals and humans. They will also explore the life-cycle of different animals. Maths The children will begin the term, by revisiting the gathering and presentation of data. They will interpret and construct tally charts, tables, pictograms and bar charts. They will also look at positional language. They will explore this using practical resources and obstacles set up outside. They will follow and write instructions using positional language, understanding the importance of being accurate and precise. The children will spend 2 weeks looking at measurement. They will estimate and then measure different ingredients to create potions. Towards the end of the term the children will revisit number and the formal methods of calculation. Year 2 will be using the column method to solve addition and subtraction problems. Year 3 will be using the Bus Stop Method (Short Division) to answer division problems. PSHE Growing Up The children will explore how our bodies change. We will look at the changes from birth to an older adult. The children will look at the importance of a balanced diet and how to stay healthy through fitness and good hygiene. The children will also explore the importance of having a healthy mind by using and applying mindfulness techniques. Shakespeare P.E The class will be completing a unit on Summer Games Art The children will be colour mixing and creating their own paintings by using only the primary colours. Following this they will move on to exploring watercolours and acrylics on different surfaces. They will also complete a drawing unit using charcoal, pens, pencils and pastels. Towards the end of the term the children will be using sculpture to design and build the Olympic Rings. ICT Coding Spanish All children will be completing a unit on Spanish. They will begin the term by exploring colour, number, days of the week and months or the year. Towards the end of the term they will move on to looking at weather, clothes, food, animals and parts of the body. All of these topics where possible will be linked with other areas of the children’s learning. The Tempest
