At One with Nature Topic based planning – foundation subjects.

Our Local Environment 9. I can create maps, plans and diagrams (using a variety of media) about the local area. I understand the role of local businesses, what jobs some people do and the importance of these. 8. I can talk about the similarities and differences between a village environment and a local town environment. 7. I can describe features of the local Environment including houses, local businesses and local landmarks. 5. I can talk about my favourite place in the local Environment and explain why I like it. 6. Visit to Greenodd Village, looking at homes, local businesses and key features. 4. I can use a computer to locate my school and my own house. 1. I can find out about my school and draw maps and plans of the building and grounds. 2. I can find out the different and most popular ways to travel to school. 3. I can describe what I see on my way to school and draw a map of my route. 6. I know about the places of work and what jobs people do in the area.

Art/ EAD Plan 9. ELG: Children safely use and explore a variety of materials, tools and techniques, experimenting with colour, design, texture, form and function. Children use what they have learnt about media and materials in original ways, thinking about uses and purposes. They represent their own ideas, thoughts and feelings through Art and Design. 8. I can make and use shadow puppets, working in a group to develop a narrative. 5. I can find, experiment with, and develop simple patterns to create a mosaic. 7. To experiment with different painting techniques including mixing, wax resist and watercolour. 4. I can use natural materials to create a bird nest collage/ fairy garden. 1. I can observe and record details from real life objects using line drawings from first hand experience. 2. I can look at a famous artist such as Monet and use a similar technique to support my own artwork. 3. I can use a mixture of natural and man- made objects to create a night time forest scene. 6. I can use coloured wool to weave a simple pattern.

Music/ Dance Plan 10. ELG: Children sing songs, make music and dance, and experiment with ways of changing them. They represent their own ideas, thoughts and feelings through music and dance. 9. I can perform musical pieces, dances and sing simple songs with confidence. 8. To explore music from around the World with particular focus on Africa. 5. I can listen and respond to musical beats. 7. I can take part in call and response activities both clapping and with instruments. 4. I can work as a team to produce a piece of music linked to a habitat e.g. Forest/ ocean. 1. I can join in by singing simple songs relating to nature and the seasons. 2. I can listen to, and identify different animal sounds. 3. I can move appropriately to music, using my imagination. 6. I can clap simple and more complicated rhythms.

Physical Development / PE plan 9. ELG: Children show good control and co-ordination in large and small movements. They move confidently in a range of ways, safely negotiating space. They handle equipment and tools effectively, including pencils for writing. 8. I can use the new techniques that I have learned to take part in a mini sports day competition. 7. I can have a go and take part in ‘field’ activities such as javelin. 4. I can safely enter and move in water, floating and kicking confidently. 6. I understand how athletic track events work and can take part in relays and other races. 1. I can control a football at different speeds, manoeuvring between goals and safely avoiding obstacles. 2. I can take part in football team games using simple attacking and defending skills. 3. I can use a racquet to move a tennis ball with accuracy by myself/ with a partner. 5. I can use a float as a support when moving through the water.

Science: Habitats 8. ELG: Children know about similarities and differences in relation to places, objects, materials and living things. They talk about the features of their own immediate environment and how environments might vary from one another. They make observations of animals and plants and explain why some things occur, and talk about changes. 7. I can recreate a simple bat roost, discussing the similarities and differences between a roost and a nest. 4. I can talk about why certain animals are suited to certain habitats. 6. I can recreate a simple bird nest habitat, locating materials that a bird would use. 1. I can identify and investigate a variety of living and non-living objects, comparing similarities and differences. 2. I know what a habitat is and that there are different types of habitats that house different living things. 3. I can identify and name different animals and plants within certain habitats. I can explore local habitats such as woodland/ pondlife. 5. I can study different habitats such as desert and ocean, identifying key animals/ plants.

Science: Plants and growth 8. ELG: Children know about similarities and differences in relation to places, objects, materials and living things. They talk about the features of their own immediate environment and how environments might vary from one another. They make observations of animals and plants and explain why some things occur, and talk about changes. 7. I can produce a simple step-by-step guide to looking after a plant. 4. I can plant a seed and observe how it grows/ changes over time. 6. I know the importance of plants within the food chain cycle. 1. I know what a plant is, what it is for and can identify different types. 2. I know that a plant starts from a small seed. 3. I know what a plant needs to grow. 5. I can investigate how plants grow in different ways depending on how much light/ water they receive.

ICT: Data handling/ Research 8. ELG: Children recognise that a range of technology is used in places such as homes and schools. They select and use technology for particular purposes. To be aware that information can be sorted both practically and by using a computer program. 7. I can use my pictogram/ graph to answer/ ask questions to others. 4. I can use a simple pictogram on the computer to answer questions. 6. I can transfer the information into other graph forms such as a pie chart or a bar chart. 1. I can use a computer to find simple facts and pictures. 2. I can use simple hyperlinks to negotiate through a website. 3. I can save my work and retrieve it from ‘My documents’. 5. I can use simple software to create a pictogram (with help) to show favourite animals/ minibeasts.
