LESSON FIVE The World Around Us – Forced Perspective & Macro

That perspective can be manipulated to create startling images The importance of macro photography in studying nature The camera settings required for close up photography That they must respect the habitat of plants and creatures they wish to photograph How to select images based on their knowledge of photography What you will learn:

Demonstrate your understanding of where glass comes from and the impact it has on our lives. Demonstrate your understanding that light bends as it passes through substances. Demonstrate your understanding that the development of self portraits in Art was dependent on the invention of the mirror. Take photograph using correct techniques as required What you should be able to do:

Forced Perspective A seemingly ordinary photo – however, by getting the subject to stand in a different position… Forced perspective is a technique that employs optical illusion to make an object appear farther away, closer, larger or smaller than it actually is. It is used primarily in photography, filmmaking and architecture.

Pupils to work in 2’s and 3’s to produce 3 different forced perspective photographs Forced Perspective

Camera setting – look for the flower symbol, scene mode, or intelligent auto. Macro mode allows you to get your camera much closer to the subject, often only 25mm away. Consider features of macro photos: lighting, composition, focal point, depth of field (focus, re-compose) background, colour. REMEMBER: No flash, No zoom. Macro Photography

Consideration of the environment, habitat When capturing images of plants or small creatures, it is very easy to damage plants etc. in the surrounding environment so you must take care not to step on anything. Photographing The Natural World

Aim: to produce a portfolio of shots of the natural world to include plants, flowers, insects/creatures (where possible) Capture a range of images, minimum of 20, then select the 5 best to keep as part of your portfolio Macro Activity

That perspective can be manipulated to create startling images The importance of macro photography in studying nature The camera settings required for close up photography That they must respect the habitat of plants and creatures they wish to photograph How to select images based on their knowledge of photography So what have we learned?
