Step 1 - Write Ideal Job Description Skills you’d like to use Industry(s) you are interested in Location preferences

Step 2 – Find a CMC Coach Same person to meet with regularly We’ll look out for you Keeps you on task Help deal with ups and downs

Step 3 – Friends and Family I’m focusing on a new career in (industry, function, the skills you want to use, location) and was wondering if you knew anyone in these areas?

Step 4 – Create a target company list and identify contacts Classmates Mentors & Former Bosses Volunteer Work Hobbies Religious Affiliations Alumni (Grad & Undergrad) Professors Friends Former Co-workers You

Step 5 - Reach Out to Contacts How you are connected What you are asking for Why interested in them Call to action How Connected

Step 6 – Schedule the Informational Interview In person if possible 20 minutes max “I’m going to be in San Francisco from 4/5 – 4/7, do you have any time to meet for 20 minutes?”

Step 6 (cont’d) - Prepare Know your pitch, what you want, how you are positioning yourself Company products, services Industry trends Recent news Have ideas on their business Create list of insightful questions
