Closing the Achievement Gap: Support for Secondary Student Access to High Level Coursework Leading to Graduation Vision 2020 Quality Schools in Every Neighborhood Report on LCAP Goal 1: Closing the Achievement Gap with High Expectations for All May 10, 2016

Data Context Reviewing Class of 2016 data (September-June) to track progress towards graduation standards. This is not Class of 2016, 9-12 cohort graduation data. Graduation data has three significant milestones: January Early Grads, June Graduates and August Summer Graduates 2

Counseling Support High Priority Sites (Crawford, Hoover, Lincoln, Morse and San Diego High Schools) received two additional intervention counselors this year. Counselor allocations were rounded up (.5 in middle and 1.0 in high schools.) 3

Counseling Support Resource Counselors have been supporting professional development, UC 'a-g' readiness, and access to advanced and dual credit opportunities: AP, IB, community college and university coursework. Resource Teachers have been tracking each individual student in the senior class. 4

Significant Changes Two years of a consecutive foreign language or the equivalent The third year of math is Intermediate Algebra or Integrated Math III ESL 5-6 is the only ESL course that counts for graduation One year of visual and performing arts 5

Graduation Update 174 students graduated early (January) 952 LOTE certifications (almost 4xs more than last year) Current data suggests that transition to higher standards for graduation is: 1)not resulting in higher numbers of students transferring in 12th grade. 2)not resulting in more students failing the third year of mathematics. 6

Transition Year At this point in time it appears that our overall graduation rate will maintain or slightly improve. In 2014, as of May 1, 89% of students were on track. The final cohort number was 89.7%. In 2015, as of May 1, 90% of students were on track. The final cohort number is being released this month. In 2016, as of May 1, 92% of students are projecting on track. A critical point in this transition is that the standards were higher for students in
