Special Curriculum Programs First Move: First Move engages young minds and teaches critical and creative thinking skills through the game of chess. While chess can be used at any age, First Move is not a "one size fits all" program. First Move is targeted to the academic standards of 2nd and 3rd grade students. Taught one hour per week by The Chess Lady (via video), classroom teachers facilitate the exercises; no chess experience is necessary. ( Accelerated Reader (AR): Accelerated Reader (AR) is a powerful tool for monitoring and managing independent reading practice. ( iStation: iStation’s fully integrated reading intervention program is unlike any other on the market. From assessment and instruction to reporting and teacher tools, iStation does more, provides more, and succeeds more than any other system of its kind ( Think Through Math: Think Through Math is a Web-based solution that provides adaptive math instruction for students in grades 3 through Algebra 1. Developed by teachers and technologists to help students prepare for rigorous Common Core and TEKS standards and assessments. Think Through Math supports math achievement in unprecedented ways. (/ Reasoning Minds: Reasoning Mind’s mission is to provide a first-rate math education for every child. To achieve this, we offer an engaging online community that develops students’ math knowledge and thinking skills, and we help schools and parents bring this to their children. (

Extra-Curriculum Programs Choir Honor Choir Student Council Chess Club

Special Teacher Trainings Adults Relating to Kids (A.R.K): A.R.K. is a research-driven process that helps adults relate to children and youth, at home and in the classroom, in caring, supportive ways. ( Love and Logic: Love and Logic ® is a method of working with students which was developed by educational expert Jim Fay, child psychiatrist Foster W. Cline, M.D. and Charles Fay, Ph.D. Love and Logic has many tools for educators, principals and districts that promote healthy parent/teacher and teacher/student relationships and positive school wide discipline. And yes, Love and Logic works along with all other school discipline programs. It actually makes them work better! ( Great Expectations (GE): Great Expectations® (GE) is a professional development program that provides teachers and administrators with the skills needed to create harmony and excitement within the school atmosphere, elements that are basic for inspiring students to pursue academic excellence. With a focus on the human quality of teaching and learning, GE provides renewal and inspiration for teachers who may have lost their way and forgotten why they became teachers in the beginning. (

P.T.O. Our school is blessed to have an amazing parent support and an awesome P.T.O.! They host many school wide events and have many special days for the staff through out the year. Spreading the Love for the Teachers Skate NightCheering Up for the Teachers

School Climate Our campus climate is a special one. Our students, parents, and staff all work hard to create a caring and loving environment at Northgate Crossing Elementary. We are a true school family who helps and supports each other in anyway that is needed. Each year the students purchase “Team TyTanium” items to support a student at Northgate whose team participates in the Houston Buddy Walk. The money collected is donate to his tem. The students get very involved and look forward to this each year. Many even participate in the walk each year. On February 11, 2013 a staff member lost her battle to cancer. Our school family came together and with donations bought a memorial bench that is outside our school. Out campus held a memorial service and many staff, parents, and students attended along with her family. Throughout the years our school family has helped staff members and students families during times in need, by providing donations, financial support, and dinners when needed. We host an annual Thanksgiving food drive as well as an annual Christmas gift drive.
